University Housing units include Business Services Operations, Dining Services, Facilities Services, Promotions & Student Recruitment, and Residence Life. Position Summary
Among the qualifications, the AD is trained as a Campus Security Authority and receives extensive training through UO Housing, UO Police Department, Office of Dean of Students, and The Office of Investigation Civil Rights Compliance.
Essential Personnel:
This position requires the employee to make every reasonable effort to arrive at the campus at their regularly scheduled times during inclement weather and/or university closures unless otherwise notified by their supervisor or manager. This includes times when the university may be closed. Essential personnel must provide reliable and current contact information at all times.
Live-On Requirements:
The Assistant Director of Residence Life resides in a University Apartment. The apartments and furnishings are modest and vary in size. Living on campus requires the Assistant Director of Residence Life to do the following:
- Provide an on-site presence during high-crisis situations, including but not limited to situations such as student death, significant physiological emergencies such as attempted suicide, assault, and environmental emergencies (earthquake, fire, flood or storm, etc.).
- Be a liaison to relevant stakeholders, such as UOPD, Dean of Students, and Lead on Call, during high-crisis situations when he/she/they are on site.
- Be present for after-hours training, including annual fall and winter training, in-service or neighborhood-level training held throughout each term.
- Provide presence and facilitation of programs and/or services during difficult or challenging campus or national incidents.
- Lead response and recovery efforts for Family Housing and University Apartments.
Minimum Requirements
- Master’s degree in Student Affairs and/or Higher Education (e.g. Student Development, Higher Education Student Administration, College student Personnel Administration, or similar program) or Master’s degree in a related field (e.g. Social Work, Counseling), or Bachelor’s degree plus three years professional experience in housing management.
- Three years of experience with direct supervision of students or professional staff.
- Three years of experience with emergency response and/or crisis management.

Preferred Qualifications
- Three or more years of residence life in a college/university setting experience.
- Experience serving traditionally underrepresented and underserved students, particularly non-traditional students.
- Experience providing academic support to college students.
- Experience with assessment.
- Experience, directly and indirectly, providing supervision and leadership.
- Experience leading and/or participating in staff recruitment and training processes.
- Experience with a developmental approach to student conduct.
