Biomedical Image Data Engineer
Job description
The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign has an opening for a Biomedical Image Data Engineer with the Beckman Institute for Advanced Science and Technology. This position will oversee the day-to-day operations of the Center for Label-free Imaging and Multiscale Biophotonics (CLIMB) computational and storage infrastructure, including leading the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the curation and storage of vast quantities of biomedical image data. In collaboration with CLIMB project leads, participate actively in the development and implementation of image analysis and other machine learning solutions that address a wide range of scientific problems related to label-free imaging.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop and validate novel image analysis and machine learning methods that meet the needs of the CLIMB
- Establish and manage a GPU-based high-performance computing infrastructure
- Establish and manage a data storage infrastructure along with relevant computational pipelines and policies for data curation
- Establish a cloud system that will allow the center to share data, software tools and other materials with external collaborators
- Work closely with the CLIMB project leads and related personnel to automate the analysis of large-scale image data sets
- Participate in producing academic products that include journal and conference papers
- Participate in education, training and outreach programs offered by the center, including an annual summer school on biophotonics, research workshop and open house
Qualifications:
Required:
- M.S or Ph.D. degree in engineering, computer science or other quantitative discipline
- Experience with scientific computing using Python
- Experience with high-performance computing with graphics processing units (GPUs) for applications that include image processing and image analysis
- Experience with the management of large-scale data sets
Preferred:
- PhD degree with documented experience in biomedical image analysis
- Expertise in deep learning for image analysis applications
- Documented experience in managing high performance computing infrastructure
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the posting period closes. Salary is commensurate with experience.
