Latona School Associates is looking for a Lead Teacher for the school-age childcare program located at the John Stanford International School (in Wallingford). We currently have lead positions open in our Kindergarten classroom.

Up to $26 per hour. This position is To join our team as a Lead Teacher. This position is 3/4 time and includes benefits. The staff at LSA are;

  • outgoing and energetic; comfortable around a large group of kids

  • caring and compassionate; helping children learn and find solutions
  • responsible and capable of managing a group of kids, and supervising an Assistant/Support Teacher

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelors' Degree or 2 years of experience in Licensed childcare. Other combinations of education/experience will be considered
  • Knowledge of Social-emotional learning (SEL) strategies is a plus!
  • CPR and First Aid Certification, or willingness to obtain
  • Food Handlers’ permit, or willingness to obtain
  • DSHS/DEL background check clearance
  • Willingness to obtain 30-hour STARS/MERIT certification (paid training)
  • Currently authorized to work in the US on a full-time basis for any employer without restriction
  • Be able to speak, read and write English, lift 40 lbs., work indoors and outdoors, assume a low posture so as to be on a child's level, and move around the center/classroom engaging in physical activity with children for a period of up to 8 hours
  • Applicants fluent in either Spanish or Japanese are preferred

Classroom Duties:

Provide active supervision of children according to the expectations LSA Administrators and DCYF licensing guidelines, which includes- but is not limited to- the following:

  • Managing the behavior of large groups of students to ensure safety and smooth operation of the program
  • Being engaged with the children at all times
  • Tracking and developing strategies to manage individual children's behavior
  • Planning and implementing classroom routines and activities
  • prepare a safe classroom enviorment, which includes-but is not limited to-the following; Maintenance of the physical classroom space, including cleaning, organizing, preparing a safe place for students each day, while meeting all the pertinent DCYF licensing guidelines for school age childcare
  • Orchestrate successful group transitions from one place to another, from one activity to another, throughout the day
  • Create a weekly lesson plan, which will enables an assistant or substitute to fill-in, in the event of absence
  • Unwaveringly model good judgement and appropriate behavior in accordance with the LSA code of conduct
  • Communicate daily with the Program Manager and Executive Director about any concerns regarding child safety, child behaviors, curriculum development, classroom management, etc.
  • Communicate as needed with parents regarding the individual social, emotion and academic development of their child
  • Participate in JSIS and/or LSA meetings pertaining to the development of individual students and improvement of the program

Additional Duties:

  • Follow record-keeping guidelines and Parent communication requirements
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Promote goodwill and team-building
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Reports to: Program Manager, Executive Director

Supervises: Assistant Teacher(s), a whole bunch of zany kids

Hours: up to 30hours per week

Compensation: $23/hr - $26/hr

Benefits: Medical and Dental, Retirement and 10 paid sick days, 14 paid holidays
