We're looking for a dedicated and talented Building Substitute to become part of our Foundation Academies Team.
Summary
At Foundation Academies we value consistency. We know that teachers sometimes need to be away from their classrooms for personal reasons, professional development or to follow up with our parents. Are you someone who loves working with a classroom full of students, any subject, and grade level? A Permanent Building Substitute is essential to assisting with instruction and promoting student pride. If a leader walked past your classroom, they would not be able to tell the difference between your classroom and a certified teacher's classroom. You are upholding Foundation Academies' mission, vision, and Core Beliefs. The Building permanent Substitute will be assigned 5 days per week at one of our 4 schools and will cover various classrooms as needed.
Here's what you'll be doing

  • You'll be performing daily teaching tasks, along with extra duties including but not limited to: grade-level, department, and parent meetings planning educational trips, advisory, homeroom, lunch, recess, classroom coverage, and detention duties.
  • You'll be participating in and supporting school events, activities, and programs, inside and outside of school hours, if possible.
  • You'll be working closely with colleagues to build a cohesive school culture of success.
  • You'll be preparing lesson plans for your academic curriculum according to Common Core State Standards alongside your supervisor and department to continue to drive excellence in instruction.
  • You'll be regularly analyzing data, monitoring progress, updating student performance trackers, and using that data to help guide your lesson plans.
  • You'll be regularly and proactively updating families about student progress.

Classroom Culture and Management

  • Collaborate with their Instructional Dean and lead teacher to ensure the needs of all learners are met
  • Meet with the Instructional Dean to plan lessons and discuss upcoming classroom events
  • Observe lead teachers and debrief on classroom management and instructional strategies

School Culture Alignment

  • Believe deeply in the mission of Foundation Academies, and that all children can learn
  • Establish and maintain relationships with students and families based on trust and respect
  • Approach practice with a sense of urgency to maximize instructional time
  • Establish and maintain high expectations for academic work and classroom behavior
  • Meet professional obligations such as meetings deadlines and honoring schedules

  • Utilize resources to study and fine-tune educational craft in a specific content area
  • Pursue standard certification in a specific content area
  • Collaborate with colleagues and seek feedback in the spirit of continuous improvement

The salary for this position, which depends on prior work experience and our assessment of your fit for the role, will likely be $49,000.

Qualifications

  • You hold a valid NJ Substitute Certification; CE, CEAS, or Standard Certification
  • You have a minimum undergraduate GPA of 3.00 (if graduated after Sept 2015) or 2.75 (before Sept 2015) for certification requirements
