The Nuclear Specialist - Chemistry at the Davis-Besse Nuclear Power Plant is responsible for implementing various plant chemistry programs required by government regulations, company policies, and industry best practices.


Primary
Responsibilities include:
  • Administration of the Chemistry QA/QC program
  • Monitoring the Open Water Cooling System
  • Chemical Control
  • Diesel Fuel Oil Program
  • Preparing and implementing short- and long-range program performance improvement initiatives. Preparing reports on system status.
  • Identifying and resolving issues associated with the assigned program, and interfacing with other Site organizations (Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, etc.) as needed.
  • Developing and completing investigations and corrective actions in accordance with the Corrective Action Program.
  • Participating in benchmarking and self-assessments.
  • Performing assigned Emergency Response Organization activities as assigned.
  • Providing support for Station refueling and forced outages.
  • Initiating clear and concise work requests for maintenance and repair of equipment
  • Adhering to Radiation Protection "As Low As Reasonably Achievable" (ALARA) practices
  • Participating in training and continuing training programs
  • Instructing and training employees in your area of assignment.
  • Preparing records with a connection to the work, assisting in reporting errors, and making suggestions for improvements of station procedures and test.
  • Reporting abnormal conditions observed or encountered, entering the findings into the Corrective Action process as required
  • Performing all work in accordance with prescribed safety rules and regulation and those associated with station emergence procedures
  • Participating in the Duty Chemistry Manager rotation as assigned
  • Performing plant outage and Emergency Response Organization (ERO) duties as assigned.

Qualifications include
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate or Bachelor's degree in a technical discipline (Chemistry) preferred.
  • At least 2 years technical experience in nuclear power plant Chemistry or 4 years of related laboratory and/or environmental experience in a non-nuclear generating facility
  • Must exhibit a high degree of nuclear professionalism, commitment to nuclear safety, sound judgment, personal integrity, leadership skills, and the motivation to drive excellence in performance.
  • An understanding of the INPO Conduct of Chemistry at Nuclear Power Stations, EPRI Guidelines as they pertain to operating nuclear facilities, and basic Nuclear Chemistry is preferred.
  • Familiarity with the industry causal analysis, and nuclear power plant fundamentals preferred.
  • Proficient in MS Office programs, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Must reside within site specific ERO response time.
