Epilepsy Foundation New England is seeking AmeriCorps members who have a passion for serving - for helping children and adults who live with epilepsy across New England. We have positions in greater Boston and Worcester, MA.
This role aims to improve the quality of life of individuals affected by epilepsy by connecting them to social and community resources and help them to navigate their health care journey. You will have an opportunity to work with a major medical institution, and upon successful completion of the program and training, you will become a Certified Community Health Worker.
EFNE Community Health Workers will lead the Epilepsy Resource Room: a space where patients can seek information on living with epilepsy and be connected through referrals for age-appropriate EFNE and hospital-based programs and resources. The CHW’s primary goals will be to increase health knowledge for patients and families affected by epilepsy. The 11-month service program starts September 2022.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide active listening, support, and coaching to patients on life changes that support health and wellness
- Building community among patients by developing and implementing new and existing youth programs
- Connecting patients to EFNE, hospital, and community resources
- Arranging inpatient support and/or recreational programs
- Assist in new initiatives as well as participating in interventions, telehealth, resource referrals, and back to school support
- Mentoring patients and connecting them to community resources
- Implementing community outreach by participating in events and providing education
- Maintaining a library of helpful literature while assisting hospital staff with site-specific needs to improve patient support

About AmeriCorps:
AmeriCorps is a national community service program that gives people an opportunity to apply their skills and ideals towards helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. Full time members will serve for 11 months, at an average of 40 hours per week from September – August 2023. Full-time members will receive a living allowance of $22,500 and upon successful completion of service a Segal Educational Award of $6495. The Epilepsy Resource Room Corps is an AmeriCorps Program where members serve to enhance the quality of life for people living with epilepsy.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma/GED
- 18 years of age or older
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Strong communication and organization skills
- Basic Computer Literacy
- Ability to balance service commitment with other commitments in a sustainable way
- Ability to work independently and in a team
Preferable Skills:
- Demonstrated commitment to diverse populations, including people with disabilities and/or epilepsy
- Experience as a volunteer in any capacity

Terms of Service:
- Position start/end date: September 2022 - August 2023
- Service commitment will average 40 hours per week, generally performed Monday-Friday 9 am-5 pm, with some weekend and evening scheduled with notice
