The Cedar Rapids and Iowa City Railroad (CRANDIC) wants you to become a part of a 100+ years tradition! CRANDIC has an opening for a Railroad Signal Maintainer in Cedar Rapids, IA! The successful candidate will be responsible for planning and implementing the necessary processes to keep the CRANDIC life-critical train control and highway grade crossing warning systems in safe operations. They will be employing specialized train detection technology, electronic circuits, relay logic, and mechanical devices. This safety critical job requires basic electrical knowledge, mechanical aptitude, and the willingness to work outside in various weather conditions.

• On call system - 24/7, 365 days per year.

What you will do

• Open to change, take initiative, make meaningful contributions, and planning completion of one's tasks
• Inspect and test our signal circuitry, equipment, and systems for problems, defects and FRA reporting
• Troubleshoot and fix malfunction
• Order, build and dismantle signal crossing warning device equipment
• Construct, install, maintain, repair, and replace signal communication circuitry, systems, and components
• Work with machines, tools, vehicles, and equipment while maintaining clean work areas
• Understand and follow company and industry safety rules, practices, and procedures
• Operate company vehicles and drive throughout
• Develop and maintain positive working relationships with coworkers, supervisors, contractors and/or customers and effectively handle conflict situations
• Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
• Perform other duties as assigned

Education Requirements

• High School Diploma Required
• Associate Degree Preferred

Required Experience

• Computer literate and have basic keyboarding computer skills
• 18 years of age or older
• Valid driver's license
• Proficient communication skills
• Able and willing to understand and apply safety rules, practice safe work habits, identify safety risks, and avoid potentially risky behaviors and situations
• Able to plan, organize, and track information and activities
• Able to effectively work independently and in group settings
• Able to effectively and accurately understand, interpret, reference, evaluate, organize, apply, and record non-technical and technical information
• Must obtain Commercial Drivers License (CDL) within 90 days after employment

Preferred Experience

• Experience installing and/or maintaining railroad signaling devices
• Knowledge in the electrical field that can be demonstrated by providing a work history including contacts and documentation of apprentice or journeyman training or experience
• An Associate's degree in electrical engineering or electronic technology or higher
• Certificate in electricity or electronics or equivalent education
• Experience working with, on and around moving heavy equipment
• Experience with railroad signaling
• Completed a formal electrical training program (e.g. training presented by a community college, trade/vocational school, or military)
• Commercial Drivers License (CDL) Class A or Class B
• Experience working outdoors in variable weather conditions (consider professional, personal, and volunteer experience)
• Experience working in an environment that requires you to wear personal protective equipment such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $56,000.00 - $77,000.00 per year
