Job Description: Space Debris and Sustainability Analyst (Member of the Technical Staff)

The Astrodynamics Department performs a wide range of orbit design and analyses to shape the future of the U.S. space enterprise. We help our customers invent new capabilities and develop some of our nation’s most critical space missions. We develop and employ modeling and simulation capabilities for rendezvous and proximity operations, formation flight, constellation design, coverage analysis, space debris environments, space protection tactics, novel applications in cislunar space, and more.

What You’ll be Doing:
  • Advise key stakeholders and government customers by performing a range of modeling, simulation, and analysis in the focus areas of space domain awareness (SDA), space control, space debris, launch support, and enhancing the resilience of other mission areas in the space enterprise architecture
  • Conduct technical deep dives, trade studies, and assessments in teams with multi-disciplinary technical leaders, Aerospace Program Office personnel, and external customers including defense and civil agencies, such as the U.S. Space Force, the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and others
  • Develop and present timely and technically accurate briefings and reports that clearly communicate analysis results and provide recommended solutions, supporting critical decisions in collaboration with technical leads, management, and customers
  • Support the development and maturation of analysis software tools.
What You Need to be Successful:
  • Master's or PhD degree in Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics, or related technical discipline (pursuing or conferred within last 12 months)
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following computer languages/tools: C, C++, Fortran, Java, Matlab, Python, Simulink
  • Coursework or relevant experience in technical writing and technical presentation
  • 0-1 years of industry work experience.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Top Secret/SCI security clearance, which is issued by the US Government. US citizenship is required to obtain a security clearance
  • Experience in at Least One of the Following Areas:
    • Orbit mechanics/astrodynamics topics, such as constellation design, orbital propagation and perturbations, orbital maneuvers, collision risk/avoidance, orbital debris analyses, launch related orbital analyses, rendezvous and proximity operations, or formation flight.
    • Applied mathematical topics, such as optimization, game theory, statistical estimation, and numerical analysis.
    • Modern software development, integration, and testing practices.
    • Spacecraft or launch operations

We offer a competitive compensation package where you’ll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
