South Dakota State University (SDSU) Extension is offering a dynamic career opportunity as a 4-H Youth Program Advisor for Hamlin and Kingsbury Counties. We are looking for a creative professional to join our South Dakota 4-H team in this important role. The selected individual will strengthen related 4-H projects and build relationships which enhance the mission area. This is a 12-month, benefit-eligible, 100% time position. This position is supervised by the State 4-H Program Director.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Serve as the advisor to the 4-H program in both Hamlin County (Hayti, SD) and Kingsbury County (De Smet, SD) managing local 4-H operational elements identified as priorities in accordance with all policies and procedures administered by the SDSU Extension 4-H program. This position will also develop and deliver educational programs in the programming priority areas of leadership, science, agriculture, and health and wellness along with other topics identified through informal and formal needs assessments; establish working relationships and coalitions with other youth-serving groups to ensure maximum opportunities for youth; provide leadership for volunteer management, including identification, orientation, training and recognition, for both youth and adults, to ensure the capacity to offer programming is maintained and grown over time; maintain an effective and efficient communication network with the County Commissioners, other 4-H Youth Program Advisors, Extension Field Specialists, volunteers, partnering organizations, stakeholders, and the public; and support the land-grant University, SDSU Extension mission and vision, and 4-H philosophy, policies, and procedures. This position does require some evening and weekend work and travel. Occasional overnight stays for statewide SDSU Extension 4-H events are required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Education, Early Childhood Education, K-12 Education, or Child, Youth, or Human Development by start date. A Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Communications, Sciences, or other related field accepted if applicant demonstrates coursework, professional or volunteer experiences in which the applicant planned, taught, or evaluated educational programs for youth audiences prior to beginning employment; must be able to use a personal computer for basic word processing and e-mail; ability to communicate well verbally and in writing is essential; must possess a valid driver’s license and personal auto or be able to obtain both within thirty days of beginning employment.

QUALIFICATIONS
:
Demonstrated experience in planning, teaching, and evaluating educational programs for youth audiences; demonstrated ability to manage local 4-H operational elements including event management, budget, and committee coordination; demonstrated ability to lead volunteer groups and committees and to work with other youth-serving groups/coalitions to maximize opportunities for youth; ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with a variety of audiences; and a demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
