ABOUT THE ROLE:

Youth Liaisons are a part of a Network with the Department of Mental Health Initiative to function as leaders in designing and advocating for healthy and racially equitable communities. As a Youth Liaison at SPY you will support the goal to improve young people holistically through different services, activities and engagements. Utilizing an equity centered community design you will provide support and services to youth experiencing trauma.

The A Bridge Home (ABH) Sunset site is located in Venice, CA and is a partnership between the Mayor’s Office, our local City Council, and People Assisting the Homeless (PATH). It is a low-barrier, high tolerance interim housing setting that provides developmentally appropriate services and engagement for transitional aged youth (TAY) to help them obtain permanent housing. ABH has a total of 154 beds, 100 of which are designated for adults, with 54 beds for TAY.

As the ABH Sunset Youth Liaison, you will provide support and services to youth, most of which have a variety of complex health, functional and social needs, in order to help them transition back into the community. The role will support and monitor site safety and youth wellness, as well as collaborate with other programs and community partners to ensure that youth feel safe and have access to appropriate services. The role will assist to facilitate workshops and events, and regularly engage with youth. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of direct service to at-risk populations and trauma-informed care. Specific knowledge or experience related to transitional aged youth experiencing homelessness is a plus.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

60% | Youth Support and Outreach

  • Greet and build rapport with youth on a daily basis; encourage residents to engage with programming, services, and case management.
  • Establish authentic, positive, and supportive relationships with youth and provide/welcome feedback
  • Assist youth in understanding case plans, language, and instructions
  • Provide psychoeducation on various topics as appropriate (e.g. COVID-19, substance use, etc.)
  • Provide youth with crisis management, conflict de-escalation, and mediation as needed
  • Utilize harm-reduction, trauma-informed care, and housing first models to approach the work with youth
  • Participate in weekly community clean up events with youth
  • Collaborate with community partners to provide youth with activities, workshops, and resources
  • Organize and coordinate engagement activities and support programming as needed
  • Engage youth with community resources and services

20% | Site Monitoring

  • Ensure site safety and youth wellness by engaging with residents and monitoring the environment
  • Complete regular rounds on premises; report site service requests and concerns as observed
  • Perform daily duties, including but not limited to, temperature checks, daily verifications, and bungalow wellness checks
  • Support during breakfast, lunch, and dinner hours
  • Other duties as assigned

10% | Administrative

  • Document activities, service plans, and results in an effective manner while strictly adhering to policy and procedure
  • Collaborate with the case management team and management to assist with youth’s case plan and ensure youth receive the services and support they need
  • Input and collect data
  • Attend internal and external meetings as assigned
  • Provide youth and staff with information from community resources and meetings
Requirements:

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • High School Diploma and/or GED.
  • Valid Driver's License and insurance required.
  • 1+ years of mentoring youth between the ages of 12 and 27.
  • 1+ years of case management, harm-reduction, trauma-informed care, and housing first models.
  • A commitment to and a passion for the mission, vision, values, and culture of SPY
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that requires attention to detail and effective collaboration with a variety of organizations and individuals
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Life and Lived Experience: have learned lessons from circumstances and others and applied to personal development
  • Ability to work and communicate respectfully within a context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds
  • Experience using technology; social media, database systems, google, Microsoft
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends
  • Some local travel required

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Changes in the environment, such as the office or outdoors
  • Physical effort/lifting, such as sedentary- up to 15-20 pounds at times

SPECIAL CONDITIONS:

Mandated Reporting Requirements: The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated

reporter’ under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with

the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 Revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of

employment.

COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements: In an effort to stem the significant increase in COVID-19

positive tests as a result of the Delta variant, the State Health Officer has issued an order, which

went into effect on August 9, 2021, requiring paid and unpaid workers of homeless services

organizations to provide proof of vaccination and/or booster (if eligible for the booster shot) or

participate in weekly COVID-19 testing if still not fully vaccinated. Please send proof of vaccination

to HR@safeplaceforyouth.org. Failure to provide proof of vaccination will require the candidate to

produce a negative test result within 72 hours of their first day of employment and commit to weekly

Driver Positions:

Applicants are required to provide a copy of their driving record from the Department of Motor Vehicles, along with a copy of their valid driver’s license and proof of insurance. Job offers are contingent upon a satisfactory driving record. Examples of an unsatisfactory driving record include:

  • Suspended or revoked license
  • Three or more moving violations in the past 36 months
  • Any violations, including drugs, alcohol, controlled substances, within the past 24 months
  • Reckless driving, including hit and runs, within the past 24 months
  • At fault accidents, resulting in fatality or serious injury, within the past 5 years
