Department Summary
The School of Biomedical Sciences (SBS) at UNTHSC is proud of its prominent role in shaping the future of the biomedical workforce. The school has three multidisciplinary departments that include Physiology & Anatomy, Pharmacology & Neuroscience and Microbiology, Immunology & Genetics. The graduate curriculum is an individual development plan (IDP)-driven and competency-based.

Position Overview
The Academic Student Navigator provides guidance for in person and online students in all aspects of their educational journey. The Student Navigator is responsible for the daily academic program activities, serving as a liaison to university faculty, staff, and administrators, and facilitating cohort participation in university functions. Additionally, the Student Navigator supports the management of all aspects of an assigned section of the college curriculum.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree and two (2) year of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in applying student leadership theory/practices
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in program development, implementation, and evaluation
  • Demonstrated commitment to fostering a diverse working and learning environment

Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree and four (4) years of related experience in higher education administration.
  • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
  • Ability to establish and maintain a good rapport with university faculty, staff, and students.
  • Skill in service orientation by actively looking for ways to help people.
  • Ability to work effectively and patiently with students.
  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.

Job Duties

o
Serve as a liaison to students within the cohort

o
Collect data with educational technology/tools as assigned in curricular, co-curricular or assessment activities. Support and assist with the educational technologies used in the classrooms

o
Provides support and information to students and leadership on a variety of issues related to the cohort

o
Support other Cohort Navigators and Academic leadership.

o
Assist class officers and other students in cohort, and develop a strategy to create community within the cohort and maintain cohort-member
enthusiasm and engagement throughout the year.

o
Assist with the planning and execution of all events and activities for the cohort.

o
Gather and provide data under the direction of leadership for all cohort events, which can then be used to assess the proficiency of the program.

o
Actively meet and establish positive/supportive relationships with members of your assigned cohort. Complete special projects and duties as assigned.
