Summary

The Access Services Coordinator is primarily responsible for providing reasonable accommodation and access for students with sensory, physical, mental or learning disabilities.

Essential Functions

This list is meant to be representative, not exhaustive. Some incumbents may not perform all the duties listed while in other cases related duties may also be assigned. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Provide appropriate and reasonable accommodative services for students with disabilities. Typical services include sign language interpreters, readers/scribes, test-taking assistance, enlargement of classroom materials, stipend note taking, real-time captioning and advisement and/or consultation.
  • Purchase and put in place equipment to assist students in the classroom. Examples of adaptive equipment include tape recorders, talking calculators, closed circuit readers, computer software to enlarge print on screen, computer voice synthesizer and Braille Equipment.
  • Serve as liaison between students with disabilities and college personnel.
  • Create, coordinate, and deliver training for faculty and staff along with the ADA Coordinator.
  • Review disability documentation from students.
  • Maintain required records and prepare reports.
  • Network with area agencies and school districts that serve persons with disabilities.
  • Counsel, advise and refer students to appropriate college offices.
  • Promote self-advocacy and independence among students with disabilities.
  • Hire and supervise Program Assistants, Sign language interpreters, student workers and other personal to assist students with disabilities.
  • Oversee office activities and functions.
  • Serve as an area resource person regarding ADA and disability concerns.
  • Attend high school and other community events related to individuals with disabilities.
  • Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.


  • Bachelor's degree in a social science field and/or related field.
  • 5 years of experience working with persons with disabilities.
  • ADA Certification or must be obtained within 6 months of hire
  • Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Provide leadership in disabilities services and work with individuals on a one on one basis.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with others.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a social science or related field.
  • 2 to 4 years of teaching experience and/or experience working with persons with disabilities.
  • General knowledge of college offices on campus and local social service agencies.
  • ADA Certification
