Job Summary

We are looking for an Accountant to provide support to the Chief Financial Officer by managing daily accounting tasks for the school. The school relies on the Accountant for work that involves attention to detail and critical thinking. The ideal candidate in this role should have a positive attitude and an active, energetic mind that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to diversity, openness, flexibility, integrity, and kindness.

The ideal candidate will be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers and attention to detail. The goal is to contribute to the overall efficient operation of the school.

Responsibilities:

  • Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded
  • Update accounts receivable and issue student account statements
  • Update accounts payable and perform reconciliations
  • Assist with reviewing of expenses, payroll records etc. as assigned
  • Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed
  • Prepare and submit weekly/monthly reports
  • Assist Chief Financial Officer in the preparation of monthly/yearly closings
  • Become knowledgeable of the school's programs, terminology, practices and policies
  • Establish and maintain productive working relationships with school staff, vendors, and contracted agencies
  • Maintain student files, transcripts, and various databases
  • Assist CEO or CFO with large-scale projects
  • Provide face-to-face customer service to students and faculty
  • Work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment
  • Assist with other projects as assigned

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Individual must possess knowledge, skills and ability to be able to successfully perform the essential functions of the position, or be able to explain or demonstrate how the essential functions will be performed, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

  • Previous experience working as an accountant
  • Previous experience working in a dynamic and fast paced environment
  • Maintain a professional demeanor
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to process large amounts of information and managing multiple deadlines efficiently and accurately
  • Competency with Microsoft Office; Well-developed organizational skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to interface and communicate confidential information with leadership, faculty, students, staff and alumni
  • Excellent organizing abilities
  • Good with numbers and figures and an analytical acumen
  • Good understanding of accounting and financial reporting principles and practices
  • Excellent knowledge of MS Office and familiarity with relevant computer software
  • BS/BA in accounting, finance or relevant field, preferred

Supervisory Responsibility

None required of this position.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a regular, full-time, benefits-eligible, non-exempt position.

The regular scheduled hours for this position will be Mondays through Thursdays from 9:00A - 5:30PM and Fridays from 8:00A - 4:30PM, however candidate may be required to work some evenings (until 7:00PM) or Saturdays based on the school's needs.

Pay: $28.00 - $34.00 per hour
