Scope of Position
The Accountant for Grant Management is responsible for accounting and compliance functions associated with restricted funds. This position will manage resources and time to meet deadlines and contribute to the preparation of budgets and reporting of restricted funds. This position will assist the Grant Operations Manager in ensuring that all policies and procedures that apply to grants are implemented and complied with. Responsibilities will include reconciling accounts, report preparation, grant issue resolution, and routine budget and journal entry preparation.
The Accountant for Grant Management will perform a variety of accounting tasks with minimal oversight and supervision, work on multiple projects simultaneously, be detail oriented, and meet deadlines.
Key Measurable Expectations
- Enter grant budgets in the system.
- Provide guidance on the appropriate college account classifications to use.
- Transfer budgeted funds from one account to another as directed by the project director and approved by the funding agency, if approval is required.
- Monitor the expenditure of grant funds on a quarterly or monthly basis and contact project directors when grant funds are not being spent in a timely manner or when grant expenditures are not in compliance with grant regulations.
- Calculate and charge indirect costs to the grant, when appropriate.
- Post payments of grant-funded stipends to student accounts as directed by the project director.
- Provide technical assistance to the project director on grant Finance issues.
- Work with the project director to reconcile any Finance discrepancies that may occur.
- Distribute, collect, and maintain time-and-effort reports for personnel who are funded on grants or devoting time to grant implementation for the local match.
- Work with the project director to document all local matching funds, when appropriate.
- Maintain records, review encumbrances, prepare billings for all assigned grants.
- Prepare and submit financial reports to the funding agency.
- Provide grant financial information to Grants staff when requested.
- Assist the Manager of Grant Operations with financial information on grants for internal and external audits.
- Serve as backup for key general accounting positions within the Finance department if needed.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate’s Degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
- Two years of related experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
- Attention to detail.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in writing and orally.
- Strong mathematical technical and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Accounting, Business, Finance or related field.
