The Excel Center for Adults, founded in 2014, is the first free public charter high school in Texas that provides adults ages 18-50 the opportunity to earn their high school diploma, complete an in-demand professional certification, and begin post-secondary education. The Excel Center offers programming that is specific to the adult learner experience such as accelerated academics and flexible scheduling, special programs, and resources, and supportive services to help students remove barriers they may encounter during their educational journey. Currently, The Excel center has three Austin-area campuses that serve both day and evening students in addition to four Justice Education campuses, located in Lockhart, Henderson, Overton, and Diboll, TX.

POSITION SUMMARY:
The primary role of the Accountant is to ensure proper reporting and compliance of school finances.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Accounting
1. Submit journal entries.
2. Reconcile balance sheet accounts.
3. Submit month-end close entries.
Accounts Payable & Purchasing
1. Manage vendor setup and documentation.
2. Enter invoices into Skyward for payment.
3. Run weekly check run.
4. Reconcile monthly p-card statements.
Annual Audit and Compliance
1. Assist with year-end close including booking accruals, reconciling statements and payments.
2. Support the audit engagement.
3. Maintain schedules for fixed assets & depreciation.
Grant Accounting and Reporting
1. Review grant expenditures for appropriateness.
1. Submit monthly grant reports for drawdown.
2. Maintain grant spending plans.
3. Communicate with grant/project managers.
Other/Misc.
1. Report directly to Education Controller and communicate problems, issues, and areas of concern.
2. Manage day-to-day relationships with vendors.
3. Attend regional training to keep up with public education accounting requirements and changes.
4. Educate staff on accounting procedures and coding.
5. Provide occasional backup support for Human Resources.
6. Be available for occasional prolonged or irregular hours.
7. Organize and plan to meet critical deadlines.
8. Comply with local, state, and federal government requirements.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Assist with special accounting projects as needed.
2. Establish and maintain professional and cooperative working relationships with all stakeholders.
3. Perform other related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
2. Two+ years accounting experience required including accounts payable, payroll, month and year end closing.
3. Knowledge of federal and state fund requirements.
4. Advanced MS Office skills in Excel.
5. Ethical behavior handling sensitive financial information.
6. Courteous, professional manner with strong customer service skills.
7. Detail-oriented mindset and problem-solving attitude.
8. Strong knowledge of various operating systems and productivity tools.
9. Strong complex problem-solving skills.
10. Must possess understanding of marginalization and how it impacts those Goodwill serves and employs.
11. Superior customer service skills, organizational, verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks or crisis situations effectively.
12. Exhibit respect for diversity of thought and have experience to advance it in teams/organization.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Knowledge of Texas public education finance laws and requirements, including the TEA Accountability Resource Guide.
2. Experience with charter school financial reporting
3. Experience with Skyward Finance Database
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:
Starting at $45,000 depending on experience and qualifications. This position is assigned to Leave Group 3.
