Cowlitz Family Health Center is looking to hire an Accounting Clerk II.

The Accounting Clerk II is responsible for the maintenance of general ledger activities, including recording of daily receipts, reconciliation, and accrual of payroll activities. This includes compilation and posting of payroll data to maintain payroll records and prepares paychecks. The Account Clerk II computes, classifies, records, and verifies numerical data for use in maintaining accounting records, while also providing customer service to employees, vendors, clients, or customers by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Accounting Specialist in compilation and posts payroll data such as hours worked, sales or piecework, taxes, insurance, and union dues to be withheld, and employee identification number, from time sheets and other records.
  • Assist with preparation of computer input forms, enters data into computer files, or computes wages and deductions and posts to payroll records.
  • Records changes affecting net wages such as exemptions, insurance coverage, and loan payments for each employee to update master payroll records.
  • Records data concerning transfer of employees between departments.
  • Prorates expenses to be debited or credited to each department for cost accounting records.
  • Assist with preparation of periodic reports of earnings, taxes, and deductions.
  • Assist with record keeping of leave pay and nontaxable wages.
  • Compiles and sorts documents, such as invoices and checks, substantiating business transactions.
  • Audits invoices against purchase orders, researches discrepancies, and approves for payment.
  • Investigates problems that vendors or purchasing agents have with obtaining payment for bills.
  • Prepares vouchers (AP, CR, JV), invoices, checks, account statements, reports, and other records, and reviews for accuracy.
  • Monitors accounts payable to ensure that payments are up to date.
  • Record daily cash receipts and deposits.
  • Reconcile GL accounts related to accruals and vendors on monthly basis and as necessary.
  • Codes data for input to financial data processing system according to company procedures.
  • Alert and advise management of any significant changes in expenses and disbursements or discrepancies.
  • Ensure the documentation is timely and neatly filed and the workplace is visibly labeled to allow for transparency in status of processing and ability for other staff to locate needed documents.
  • Assists employees, vendors, clients, or customers by answering questions related to accounts, procedures, and services.
  • Duties may include a combination of answering telephones, bookkeeping, typing or word processing, office machine operation and filing.
  • Computes, classifies, and records numerical data to keep financial records complete.
  • Performs routine calculating, posting, and verifying duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records.
  • Checks accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions recorded by other office staff.
  • Complies with HIPAA privacy and security regulations.
  • Supports FHC strategic, clinical and operational initiatives such as Patient Centered Medical Home.
  • May be required to work nonstandard schedule to meet the needs of patients and the communities served by FHC.
  • Back up for Accounting Clerk I duties as necessary.
  • All employees are expected to practice to the top of their license or certification.

DESIRED EDUCATION, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in accounting/bookkeeping; or two to five years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 2 or more years prior full cycle bookkeeping experience accurately recording and processing payroll and financial transactions using electronic accounting systems. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred.
  • Proficient in math skills
  • Proficient in Excel
  • Ability to work with a low-income, multi-ethnic patient population and a demonstrated ability to relate respectfully and effectively to people of diverse racial, educational and socio-economic backgrounds.
  • Must be a confident, self-directed individual who can work within a team as well as independently. Strong communication, organization, documentation and record keeping skills necessary.

- Experience as a financial employee of a community health center.

- Bilingual English/Spanish
