Our Accounting Manager role is needed to ensure that the financial results are accurately prepared in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principals on a timely basis. This position will involve the ability to effectively coordinate with the Controller and finance personnel on a regular basis. The Accounting Manager, in conjunction with the Controller, will maintain the integrity of the financial accounting system for our strong and always expanding organization. In this role, the Accounting Manager would prepare the monthly and annual financial statements for review and distribution to the department heads, assists with the budget process and preparation for annual independent audit and supervises accounting staff. Other duties come within the scope of the job description as assigned by the Controller. This is a role that will require some office time for direct meetings and interaction with the Controller, Administration, the Finance/Accounting team, and per other expressed and timely needs.
This is a prime opportunity to use your strong experience to move into a higher leadership role in Finance, working with our Controller in this ever-expanding nonprofit structure. Not only that, but all of the work that we do helps the organization to better serve all of those that are underserved in our Maine and Northern New England communities, including homeless Veterans, homeless youth, and many, many more.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Accurate reconciliation of general ledger accounts to be completed monthly.
2. Ongoing review of accounts receivable, accounts payable, and general ledger entries for appropriateness and discuss issues impacting integrity of financial data with Controller.
3. Prepares monthly closings of general ledger on a timely basis.
4. Ensures distribution of current and accurate financial statements to the Executive Team and program managers by the 15th business day of each month after analyzing financial data and making the appropriate adjustments.
5. Responds to inquiries about information contained in financial statements and proactively resolve issues with program managers and Accounting Team.
6. Assists in preparation of financial reports and financial data requested by funding agencies within funding agencies time constraints.
7. Supports cash flow management and forecasting.
8. Assists with annual budget process as directed by the Controller.
9. Prepare, review, and complete financial schedules for the annual independent audit in conjunction with the Controller.
10. Establish in writing and effectively communicate job expectations and regularly provide feedback on performance of direct reports; complete performance evaluations for direct reports in a timely manner.
11. Provide technical and administrative guidance and assistance to direct reports that lead to proactive problem resolution.
Education, Experience, and Qualifications:
This position requires initiative, flexibility, simultaneously meeting multiple demands, and the proven ability to work with minimum supervision.
1) Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Financial Management;
2) A minimum of 3 years in a progressively responsible accounting role and supervisory experience;
3) Strong analytical, research and problem-solving skills;
4) Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
5) Expert PC skill proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel;
6) Experience working with accounting software;
7) Ability to interact well with all levels of staff and funding sources;
8) Ability to work in a team environment and provide direction, guidance, and leadership to the accounting department.
