PRIMARY PURPOSE: Ensure that each individuals money is spent for their needs in accordance with regulatory guidelines

KEY ACTIVITIES:

  • Work with individuals to create a budget and complete the budget agreement form
  • Monitor monthly bills and utilize the Social Security entitlements to pay said bills and provide personal spending money to the individual on a regular basis.
  • Inform Social Security about changes that may affect the individuals eligibility for benefits and complete all documentation required by Social Security to maintain benefits.
  • Collaborate with the individuals case manager to understand their needs, ensure that current needs are met and assist individuals to understand their financial choices regarding the use of their Social Security benefits.
  • Utilize on-line banking and Quicken to maintain financial records and complete semi-annual internal audits.


OTHER DUTIES AS ASSIGNED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Maintain each individuals checkbook accurately and balance monthly bank statements.
  • Maintain communication with AFC and Shared Living care providers and ensure cash-on-hand logs and receipts are present and complete.
  • Assist individuals to complete applications and maintain eligibility for other financial support such as Food Stamps and Fuel Assistance.
  • Submit request form for any expenditure that is outside of the individuals budget agreement and over $100.00.
  • Record data and update case managers so they can write regular progress notes about money management, and maintain financial information in accordance with DDS regulations.
  • Consult with nursing staff on all medical needs that may impact the individuals finances.
  • Assist individuals to plan and save money for larger purchases or vacations.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 3 years of experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Must have valid drivers license and one year of driving experience.
  • Reading, writing, and math skills required. Familiarity with on-line banking, Quicken and MS Word
  • Regular and predictable attendance

Metrics

Individual bill payments and weekly spending money are distributed according to the budget plan.
Current needs are met, including food, shelter, medical care, personal needs, clothing and recreation and if needs are not met because of inadequate funds a plan is in place to address those needs.
Audits indicate that regulatory procedures and documentation are completed correctly and in a timely manner.
