This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility Under the direction of the Executive Director or Health & Wellness Director the AOA Coordinator will assist in all program activities and administration of the active older adult programs.

The AOA Coordinator will receive a minimum of 3 weeks Paid-Time Off, Holiday Pay, Full-time benefits to include Medical, Dental, Vision, Life insurance, a Retirement 403(b) pension plan upon eligibility and a Free YMCA Membership.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Assists in developing and coordinating appropriate programming and activities to meet the needs of the community.
  • Assists with planning, implementing, and instructing Active Older Adult Group Exercise programs and other Senior-based wellness initiatives in accordance with strategic and operating plans.
  • Assists in scheduling and directing group exercise instructors and volunteers as needed.
  • Establishes new program activities and expands programs under the direction of the Director.
  • Assists in organizing and scheduling program and membership registrations.
  • Assists in coordinating the use of facilities for program activities and events.
  • Assists in YMCA fund raising activities and special events.
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions. Responds to all member and community inquiries and complaints in timely manner.
  • Attend appropriate and needed training offered by the YMCA of Greater San Antonio.
  • Maintain safe program areas, including indoor and outdoor areas, YMCA and non-YMCA facilities, and equipment.
  • Maintain clean centers and help to monitor cleaning maintenance crew.
  • Maintain accurate inventory all equipment related to the program.
  • Follow accident report procedures and policies.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A HS Diploma or GED is required. Prefer a 2 year college degree in a Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation or health related field. Will accept experience in lieu of college degree.
  • A strong background in experience and/or education and training in working with older adults and a genuine interest in this population is essential.
  • Requires training, certifications or experience with group exercise, program development, YMCA fitness programs or YMCA specialist training or equipment.
  • Personal leadership and commitment to health and wellness is important.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of
    the community.
  • Must understand the basic concepts of a voluntary, non-profit organization, as well as the structure of the YMCA as a partnership of volunteers and staff, and accept a commitment to the YMCA mission.
  • Employee must have working knowledge of a Mac environment, Gmail, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Certifications required within the first week of hire: Redwoods Bloodborne Pathogens, Hazardous Communications, and Defensive Driving.
  • Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, AED, and Emergency Oxygen. This position must have the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations.
  • Must be 21 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, as well as capacity to drive to various locations within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed in a fast-paced facility environment. Position requires attending meetings at different off-site locations.
  • Visual acuity is required for reading computer screens and/or documents and making changes as necessary/required.
  • Job requires high levels of alertness and concentration. This position requires analytical abilities and multitasking in order to identify problems and recommend solutions.
  • Job requires accuracy and attention to detail, organizational, and time management skills, while maintaining high levels of initiative in order to work within deadlines.
  • Occasional stooping and bending with regular lifting of up to 20 pounds is required.
  • Incumbent must be able to sit and stand for long periods of time, as well as, able to manipulate keyboards, telephone keypads, and writing utensils is essential.
