Actuarial Assistant, Actuarial Analyst Senior II or Actuary Associate
Remote from Oregon, Washington, Idaho or Utah
Primary Job Purpose
The Actuarial Assistant/Actuarial Analyst Senior II/Actuary Associate is responsible for proactively managing and retrospectively tracking and reporting on the financial and risk positions within the company and supporting the strategic goals of the corporation. Within that context, the Assistant Actuary performs technical, analytical, and support functions to help the division and the company meet its goals.
General Functions and Outcomes
  • Provides actuarial support to any or all divisions of the organization.
  • Participates in the Actuarial Credentialing Support Program with the intent of obtaining Associate in the Society of Actuaries and Membership in the American Academy of Actuaries credentials.
  • Effectively manages work and study time.
  • Actively contributes to personal development plan.
  • Develops documentation for new models or projects.
  • Drafts memos summarizing analysis and recommendations.
  • Makes recommendations to team leader regarding work results.
  • Develops methodology for new projects.
  • Completes technical peer review of ad-hoc projects and new models.
  • Follows team and department best practices for new work product.
  • Actively participates in the division’s peer review processes.
  • May assist, train, and learn from other team members.
Minimum Requirements
  • Keen analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Business sense (finance, accounting, economics, risk management).
  • Solid oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Access and SAS).
  • Well into the process of earning recognized actuarial credentials (ASA, MAAA).
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Proven ability to perform moderately difficult actuarial tasks.
  • Demonstrated competency in performing all Actuarial Analyst Assistant II duties.
Normally to be proficient in the competencies listed above
The Assistant Actuary would have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, economics, computer science or related discipline, and at least two years of increasingly responsible actuarial job experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
The Actuarial Analyst Senior II would have a Bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, economics, computer science or an equivalent related field and a minimum eight years experience in an insurance company, health plan or related organization. Advanced degree (MS, MBA) or professional certification (CEBS, software proficiency) preferred or an equivalent combination of education and job-related experience.
The Associate Actuary would have a bachelor’s degree in mathematics, actuarial science, statistics, economics, computer science or related discipline, and at least four years of increasingly responsible actuarial job experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Work Environment
Office environment with no unusual physical requirements.
Assistant Actuary:
Effective 1/01/2023, The base pay annual salary range for this job is $83,500 to $136,000
Actuarial Analyst Sr II:
Effective 1/01/2023, The base pay annual salary range for this job is $91,500 to $149,000
Associate Actuary:
Effective 1/01/2023, The base pay annual salary range for this job is $100,500 to $164,000
