Job Description: Newlands & Clark seeks a legal administrative assistant. This role will be responsible for properly filing, calendaring, and tasking all incoming documents and deadlines in a fast-paced personal injury firm that litigates and tries cases. You will be responsible for overseeing and ensuring that our electronic file system remains complete, organized, and updated. These responsibilities are the foundation of all the work we do. Information is power. The more we have, the better results we can get for the clients who trust us with their cases. This is also the ideal position to learn the inner workings of litigation and trial work and will set you up for advancement within the firm if you have the desire and the aptitude.
The successful applicant for this role will be organized and detail-oriented to the point that it's almost offensive to normal people. The successful applicant for this role may be the type of person that creates lists for everything and complex organizational structures to govern their everyday life. They may be described by friends and family as "kind of OCD." They may be irrationally mad when others forget something (even if trivial) or don't know where to find something. They may ruthlessly disparage someone who commits the mortal sin of making a typo, even if insignificant or meaningless. ABOUT US: We are a small, elite personal injury firm committed to innovation, excellence, and client satisfaction. We carry a small inventory of catastrophic personal injury cases. We litigate those cases and take them to trial. We do anything and everything within the bounds of our ethics and the law to maximize the remedy we can get for our clients. Our clients are all either seriously injured or have had a loved one die. If being in that environment doesn’t sound like something you want to do (it’s not for everyone), you can stop reading here. This isn’t the job for you.
A final note about the work – our work is high-pressure. We are not. But we rely on our team for some of the most important responsibilities in our law firm. And there is no responsibility more critical than the one we are hiring for in this role. If things are not on the calendar and saved and filed properly, we are flying blind. It is very important to us that this job is done with excellence. But we also take very seriously our obligation to reward excellence. The successful applicant for this position will be treated as though their work is the backbone of what this law firm does. Because it is. To demonstrate that, we offer unprecedented flexibility, autonomy, and opportunity if you excel at what you do. We’re in no hurry to hire; but will hire very quickly once we find the right person.
Compensation: This position starts at $13.00 per hour during a 90-day probation period. After your first 90 days, we either part ways or we convert you to a salaried position plus an annual bonus. We offer full health benefits after the 90-day probation period.
