Job Summary:

Chloeta is seeking a Certified Nurse Midwife (Advanced Practical Nurse/Midwife) to provide services at a medical facility in a Native American/American Indian community in Shiprock, NM. The ideal midwife will find solace in caring for a community in need of compassionate and culturally aware care. This facility is a 60-bed medical center and has one of the largest patient volumes within the Navajo Area. The facility provides inpatient and outpatient primary and specialty care services. The Emergency Department (ED) provides emergency medical treatment 24 hours a day, seven days a week to patients of all ages and is designated as a Level IV trauma center. The ED is certified as Peds Ready by the New Mexico Emergency Medical Services for Children and the University of New Mexico Child Ready Program.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide independent, professional medical care to mothers and babies including high-risk patients of the maternal-child population before, during, and after delivery; provide family planning education/services and gynecological service to healthy women.
  • Collaborate in determining and making recommendations for broad program goals and objectives for maternal-child health care in setting medical, midwifery, and nursing standards and protocols as they relate to maternal-child health care.
  • Participate in designing and conducting research relevant to the health care needs of individuals, families, and communities.
  • Provide advice and serve as a health consultant to patients, other professionals, the community, and others as requested.
  • Shall provide appropriate documentation on rendered patient care utilizing EHR system; responsible for utilizing the EHR system to obtain, dictate, electronically enter and assure preparation of appropriate medical records for all patients seen to assure the accumulation and organization of all pertinent clinical data needed to provide comprehensive medical care.
  • Provide for comprehensive (total) care with the freedom to consult with and/or refer to other health care providers as necessary.
  • Collaborate in planning and shall participate in teaching in educational programs for patients, families, para-professional, and professional health workers.
  • Perform complete history and physical examination; determines dosage and timing of medication for relief of pain or labor.
  • Utilize fetal monitoring equipment including application of scalp electrodes and interprets the meaning of the information recorded; determines the content, orders and/or administers intravenous solutions and medications and performs other specialized procedures.
  • Determine methods and administer anesthesia such as paracervical, pudendal and local blocks; perform episiotomy and does repair of episiotomy and/or lacerations; record the delivery in permanent record book and sign the completed birth certificate.
  • Order, administer and monitor medications within prescribed guidelines. Under the guidelines, orders for medications are honored by nursing and pharmacy staff without counter-signature of a physician.

Education and Experience:

  • Required: Completed an accredited certified nurse midwifery program with a minimum of six months experience in the specialty required by the contract; there must be no lapse of services of no more than six (6) months prior to beginning tour of duty.
  • Required: Must be board certified with the American College of Nurse Midwifery, and shall possess a current, valid, unrestricted appropriate license in any state, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a Territory of the United States, throughout the term of this contract.
  • Required: Must maintain a valid, current, full, and unrestricted DEA license with schedule types II through V and maintain certification throughout the term of the contract. License verification must be provided at the time of application.
  • Required: Provide 3 professional references. Must provide three current letters of reference from other health care providers familiar with the midwife's clinical practice skills within the same discipline. One letter must be from the Chief of Staff/Medical Director or Immediate Supervisor at the hospital in which the contractor either holds or last held staff privileges. If the contractor has just completed a residency program, one of the letters shall be from the program director or service chief.
  • Required: Maintain valid and current certification and provide proof at the time of application in the following:
    • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) or Basic Life Support (BLS)
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
    • Newborn Life Support (NLS)
    • Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)
    • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
    • Other certifications as required by specialty.
  • Required: Possess and maintain a current driver's license in any state.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to withstand physical and emotional stress.
  • Requires long hours of standing and moving.
  • Able to frequently lift at least 50 lbs., reach, pull, push, bend, stoop, and kneel.
  • At the time of hire, must provide a fitness for duty certificate issued by a licensed physician to perform the proposed job without significant risk to personal health or the health and safety of others.
  • At the time of hire, must provide documentation of evidence of immunizations as required by the facility's immunization policy.

Pre-employment Requirements:

Drug and Alcohol Testing:

To enforce Chloeta’s Drug and Alcohol Testing Policy, an employee or candidate could be subject to undergoing a drug screen and/or alcohol testing at the beginning of employment, as well as after commencement of employment where there is reasonable suspicion of intoxication, or following an automobile or other accident, or as part of a company or facility-wide random drug screen process.


Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA):

Under the FCRA, Chloeta may request a credit check during the onboarding process. A written authorization form will be required before obtaining credit records.


Emergency Response:

Every Chloeta employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official Duty Station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official Position Description (PD). Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
