SUMMARY:

Family Service League is seeking a per diem Advocate, who will report to the Program Coordinator and is responsible for conducting client assessments, linking families with community based service resources and assisting clients in achieving self-sufficiency through advocacy, counseling and resource referrals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform intakes for new clients upon arrival to shelter.
• Provide ongoing support and counseling for clients in reaching their goals.
• Build productive relationships with clients, ensuring proper boundaries with all individuals.
• Provide reliable information to families and client support systems.
• Conduct rounds for safety.
• Assist families with support services through effective communication and crisis intervention.
• Maintain post assigned and ensure appropriate communication with other team members.
• Negotiate conflict between clients if the occasion arises.
• Transport clients as needed.
• Follow Program Coordinator's direction on all client and program matters and handle special projects as assigned.
• Abide by FSL’s Code of Ethics. Understand ethical behavior and ensure own behavior and the behavior of others is consistent with these standards and aligns with the values of the organization.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor's degree and/or 1 year experience in human services is preferred. Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills required. Candidate must possess the ability to work as part of a team. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office required. Candidate must possess a valid and clean New York State Driver’s License.
