Overview:
Under direct supervision, assist the physical therapist in the organization and implementation of patient care activities.
Responsibilities:
  • Assist in preparation of patient treatments, including, the application of ambulatory devices and the securing of necessary equipment.
  • Instruct patients in the safe use of ambulatory-support devices. Guards patients during ambulatory training.
  • Supervise patients performing exercises with or without weights.
  • Replenish supplies and maintains inventory of equipment. Prepare reports for Supervisor.
  • Maintain order and cleanliness of gym and clinic including periodic disinfecting of equipment.
  • Instruct, motivate, and provide assistance to patients when performing transfers and pre-ambulatory activities.
  • Prepare patients for hydrotherapy treatments. Supervises patients during hydrotherapy treatments. Cleans tanks and treatment area following use.
  • Perform clerical duties as needed.
  • Assist Physical Therapist in treatment of patients of all ages.
  • Transport patients to and from the Physical Therapy gym as needed. Provides relief Transport for other therapists as needed.
  • Rotate through Brookdale, Schulman, and Schachne every eight months or as rotations occur.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
  • High School Graduate.
Experience:
  • Knowledge of methods for safe lifting and transferring of patients.
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Ability to deal effectively and tactfully with patients.
  • Ability to fully utilize BHMC’s electronic record systems, equipment and other health-care and billing systems relevant to this position.
Physical Requirements:
  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
  • Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Requires physical ability to lift and transport patients.
