Overview:

Mechanics should have experience in troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining all mechanical portions of the BHS and PBB. Mechanic must be able to work autonomously or with a work crew and know how to proficiently replace any mechanical device, structural portion or support involved with the efficient, safe operation of the BHS & PBB. Mechanics should be familiar with 3-phase 480v connections; however, they will only be responsible to work with voltages below 120v. Mechanics must be able to understand and work on single phase 110v and lesser voltage connections under the oversight and approval of the lead Mechanic.


Essential job functions:

  • Experience in preventative, predictive and proactive maintenance procedures, troubleshooting, and servicing equipment
  • Demonstrated knowledge and skills in lubrication and mechanical equipment; basic understanding of types of lubricants and application of each
  • Experience reading technical diagrams and schematics
  • Use computerized maintenance management system a plus, or manual system

• Preventive maintenance as required by maintenance group • Certified to operate mobile equipment

  • Perform preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance on various Passenger Boarding Bridge systems.
  • Complete tasks such as mechanical troubleshooting and motor replacements when necessary.
  • Responsible for daily maintenance for the PBB/BHS checks.
  • Required to effectively perform and document all completed tasks via internal tracking system.

• Follow the direction of the Site Manager. • Report all process problems to manager and recommend corrective actions.

  • Check the job site for safe system operations and report to the company's management in writing any unsafe conditions or operations and the circumstances of any accidents.

Job Requirements:

  • Strive to achieve the highest levels of maintenance performance to benefit the Customer's long-term satisfaction
  • May be required to assist with system operations in emergency situations and perform other duties as instructed by immediate supervisor.
  • Lift and carry tools and equipment weighing up to 45 pounds.
  • Must be able to climb 10 – 25 ft. in height on ladders and perform duties while working on ladders.
  • Must have good coordination and good balance for working on top of the boarding bridges up to 25-30 ft. above ground.
  • Must be able to stand 60 – 75% during an 8-hour shift.

• Must be able to operate the controls for a forklift or man lift (authorized employees only) in congested area • Must be able to drive jet bridges and/or operate conveyor systems (if applicable).

  • Drive vehicles weighing up to 3 tons on selected assignments in congested areas requiring good depth perception and ability to distinguish colors.
  • Must have good eyesight or prescription glasses to read small print on parts and schematics.
  • Work with color-coded wiring and other components which requires the ability to differentiate colors to include but not limited to red, green, yellow, blue, black, brown, white, and orange.
  • Operate a variety of tools, including power tools, in the process of assembling, disassembling, repairing, and installing parts and components while reaching, twisting, turning, and gripping.
  • Must be able to read and understand electrical schematic.
  • Work in a high noise-level environment and tolerates dust and jet fumes. (Dust masks and earplugs are provided).
  • Read and interpret printed or computerized maintenance manuals. Write and type legibly to complete forms/paperwork as required.
  • Be familiar with computers and Microsoft based operating systems.
  • Must be able to regulate own work with little supervision and accomplish tasks on own.
  • Employee’s personal hand tools are required

All the above functions are normally performed within certain narrow time constraints which are usually dictated upon the actual arrival of an aircraft and its scheduled departure. The failure to perform these functions may result in passenger inconvenience caused by delayed aircraft departure and passenger and employee safety. The failure to perform these functions properly may result in serious injury to passengers, employees, damaged ground equipment and/or aircraft.


Required Education and Experience:

  • Education: High School Diploma.
  • Experience in an industrial environment or minimum 1 year experience as maintenance mechanic.
  • Flexible work schedule for 24/7 operations
  • Valid Driver’s License

Other requirements:

Must be able to attain and sustain an Airport ID Badge


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong electrical trouble shooting, conveyor and control system
  • Experience using a variety of welding equipment, system software (Siemens, Allen Bradley PLC Systems and WPS etc.)
  • Experience in working knowledge of mechanical and electrical systems and electromechanical devices up to 480 volts such as motors, DC Clutches, Switches, Panels and controls, etc. DC Drives knowledge a plus and Welding techniques (Fillet Weld, Butt Weld, Weld Joints, Weld Types, Weld Edges, Welding Groove, Stringer and weaving beads, torch angle, forehand and backhand).
  • Experience in repair of special purpose equipment using Machines - Semi- Automatic, Automatic orManual tools (saws, squares, calipers etc.)
  • Experience working on (PBB) Jet Bridges.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:


  • Full time position-40 hours per week; night, weekend, overtime, and holiday work are common.

Work Environment and Physical Demands:


The work environment/physical requirements described here are representative of those an employee mayencounter while performing the essential functions of this job. Technicians work in the secured baggage handling areas, in repair stations, or on airfields. They often must meet strict deadlines to maintain flight schedules.


Workers frequently bend, stoop, and reach from ladders and scaffolds. While performing the duties of this job,the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands andarms. This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing all day. The employee frequently lifts and/or move items over 50 pounds with the help of teammates. They will be lifting parts and tolls for extended periods of time and handling equipment such asconveyor systems. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is working with and exposed to the baggage handling system, mechanical parts and vibration. The environment can also be loud because of aircraft engines and equipment.
