About the Role:

Title: Lab Animal Technician

Location: Mt Vernon, Indiana 47620

Duration: Permanent, Direct Hire

Pay Rate: $20/hour

Hours: 5:30am-2:30 or 3:30pm CT (depending on the week’s workload); Monday-Friday w/ every 3rd weekend including Saturday and Sunday required

Must-Haves:

• Animal science, handling, or care background
• Strong desire to work with animals in a research setting on a daily basis, including rodents, rabbits, chimpanzees, and K9’s
• Ability to read and interpret animal identification, dose groups, and color codes
• Comfortable checking urination, stool, temperament changes, completing cage cleaning changes, feeding, watering, and restraining animals during procedures

• Ability to get involved in technical procedures/assignments

• Comfortable working with Windows/Microsoft platforms including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Negative TB result is required, or a chest x-ray to confirm no

Plusses:

• Experience as a veterinarian technician, animal lab technician, animal research technician, veterinary assistant, or experience in a veterinarian clinic
• Experience handling laboratory tools and instruments such as autoclaves, sterilizers, electronic scales/balances, clippers, shavers, vented hoods, and other surgical devices
• Completion of certification as an Animal Care Technician
• Bachelor's Degree in Animal or Medical sciences

What You’ll be Doing:

One of Insight Global’s large Life Sciences clients is looking for several Laboratory Animal Technicians to support their team near Evansville, Indiana. This is a permanent hire role paying $20/hour. As a Lab Animal Technician, you will be responsible for supporting laboratory procedures and operations, as well as performing lab tests and evaluations without direct supervision. You will use a variety of lab equipment, you will perform simple calculations, and maintain confidential information. You will also be responsible for maintaining animal environments/colonies by cleaning cages, equipment, animal rooms and support areas. You will administer test material to the animals and record data via lab record notebooks, computers, and data sheets. In this role you will be exposed to animals daily, so it’s important you have a desire to work with animals in a research setting. You will be catching, holding, and dosing animals regularly. This is a laboratory environment, so you may be exposed to animal bites, scratches, and material associated with animal husbandry, however you will be provided with items such as latex gloves, dust mask and/or respirator, hearing protection, and safety glasses.
