Job Description
Anti-Money Laundering (AML) Investigations Officer will be responsible for reviewing and decisioning complex transaction monitoring alerts designed to detect potential money laundering, terrorist financing, and drug trafficking activities in compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), USA PATRIOT Act, and related laws and regulations. The Officer will monitor and analyze customer account activity, evaluate industry and client risks, and recommend suspicious activity report (SAR) filing.
Responsibilities:
  • Evaluating and documenting the effectiveness of alert thresholds.
  • Perform periodic coverage assessment of the Bank’s monitoring rules.
  • Perform reviews and investigations related to alerts generated from the PRIME alerts system.
  • Identifies and analyzes high-risk customers and other identified accounts for unusual and suspicious activity.
  • Provides accurate documentation of the suspicious activity and recommends appropriate actions.
  • Prepares Suspicious Activity Reports (SARs) and follows appropriate review, documentation and follow-up steps as outlined in Bank’s BSA/AML Program. Maintains confidentiality of reports and documentation as required by law.
  • Reviews legal requests and conducts account reviews from a BSA/AML/USA Patriot Act perspective.
  • Provides prompt escalation of BSA findings to appropriate management.
  • Communicates internally to all lines of business to obtain additional information and further documentation to complete analysis of identified accounts.
  • Assist in maintaining and testing the data inputs used by the transaction monitoring system as well as evaluating the effectiveness of alerts
Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3-4 years of investigative or related experience with emphasis on BSA/AML.
  • Undergraduate college degree or equivalent job experience in banking, preferred.
  • Intermediate Excel and Word skills – pivot table and chart usage, sorting and filtering, incorporating data validation
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing client transaction activity preferred
  • Ability to independently analyze, research, and problem solve.
  • Strong writing skills.
  • Experience with a BSA/AML transaction monitoring system required.
  • Knowledge of applicable regulations and industry knowledge of emerging risks.

  • Escalating matters that can result in adverse market practices and outcomes, thereby negatively impacting CIBC’s reputation as a leading financial institution.
