Purpose

Assist in the supervision of custodial staff performing building cleaning. Perform cleaning work using standardized OS1 cleaning procedures. Half-time position, 20 hours a week, Saturday, Sundays and all University Holidays. Hiring decision contingent upon applicant clearing background check.

Responsibilities

  • Work in all University buildings. Lead employees in accomplishing work to further the mission and goals of the department, inspect completed work to ensure correct and timely completion, and assist Building Attendant Leader with administrative tasks.
  • Perform general cleaning according to schedule and for trouble calls, remedial services, and client requests.
  • Follow correct unlocking, locking, an alarm procedures. Secure buildings and rooms on schedule and/or after cleaning. Follow key control/access card procedures and guidelines. Carry UT ID at all times during working hours.
  • Drive University light duty pick-ups and vans to move equipment and personnel to accomplish assigned work.
  • Set up and pick up table linens and other items for specials events. Provide on-duty cleaning and event support. Clean after emergencies.
  • Must possess written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to read, understand, and communicate written requests and instructions.

Required Qualifications

High school graduation or GED. Experience following basic work instructions. One year of experience in any of the following fields: Custodial, Environmental Services, Hospitality, Warehouse, Production or Facilities Maintenance. Ability to read and write work materials and follow written work instructions and product labels. Ability to walk 3-5 miles daily. Able to receive and understand trouble calls and client requests over the phone and be able to communicate over two-way radio to dispatch the manpower to trouble calls and client requests over the phone and be able to communicate over two-way radio to dispatch the manpower to trouble call areas and client requests. Able to communicate with Building Attendant Leader via two-way radio and telephone to assist him or her with duties. Desire to work on a team. Stable work history. Strong attendance record. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Preferred Qualifications

Associate Degree or higher, more than two years’ experience in custodial, environmental services, hospitality, warehouse, production or facilities maintenance work. Experience in supervising, training, inspecting, and scheduling custodial, environmental services, hospitality, warehouse, production or facilities maintenance work. OS1 Experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, teamwork, and interpersonal skills. Successful completion of the Campus Planning and Facilities Management Leader Development Program.

Driving Required

The applicant selected must provide a current three-year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident.

Working Conditions

  • Continuous standing/walking. Use a backpack vacuum cleaner and other standard custodial equipment. Exposure to blood borne pathogens. Use of personal protective equipment and safety footwear. Lift and carry 50 Ibs. Push/pull 50 Ibs.

Work Shift

  • Workdays are Saturdays and Sundays, 2:00PM- 1:00AM
  • Work all university holidays.
  • Overtime required with little or no advance notice.
