For 30 years our projects have encompassed a wide variety of transportation, water, wastewater, drainage, financing assistance and contract engineering for cities, counties, special districts, architects, universities and governmental agencies.

Associate Engineer

The Associate Engineer performs professional civil engineering work in the planning, design, technical investigation review, plan check, and construction of projects in the areas of sewer, water, storm drain, transportation, hydraulics, and/or structural engineering. The Associate Engineer works under general supervision and is expected to complete complex civil engineering assignments requiring the use of judgment and initiative in developing solutions to problems, interpreting general policies, and determining work assignments.

Essential Job Duties:

  • Participate in the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates pertaining to construction of water, sewer, street, storm drain, street lighting, traffic signal, other facilities, and related public works projects; research project design requirements; perform complex calculations.
  • Participate in the plan check, review, and processing of plans for private developments affecting streets, water and waste water, drains and related public works facilities and ensure that they meet all agency imposed requirements
  • Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography, and other topographical data to plan projects.
  • Research building codes, publications, and industry information sources.
  • Ensure compliance with various ordinances, codes, and applicable laws.
  • Coordinate planning, design, and construction activities with other agencies and clients.
  • Develop and revise design and construction standards.
  • Read and interpret construction drawings such as improvement plans, maps and/or blueprints.
  • Investigate field problems affecting property owners, contractors, and maintenance operations.
  • Prepare special studies and reports; prepare estimates and feasibility reports for new or modified construction projects.
  • Coordinate and manage design projects and track project budgets.
  • Assist with design proposal and work estimates and costs of materials, equipment, and/or labor to determine project feasibility.
  • Assign routine investigation, design, and drafting tasks to technical subordinates and review completed work.
  • Assist in the supervision, training, and evaluation of lower level professional, technical, and clerical subordinates.

Job Specifications

Knowledge of:

  • Principles and practices of civil engineering, including applying techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Methods and techniques of field data collection, tabulation, and analysis.
  • Computer applications relating to civil engineering analysis, and engineering mathematics.
  • Principles and practices of contract administration and project management and evaluation.
  • Structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications.
  • Basic supervisory principles and practices.
  • Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services, including customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

No oversees applications will be reviewed.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Any combination equivalent to the education and experience likely to provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to gain such knowledge and abilities would be:

Education: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in an engineering discipline related to the area of assignment.

Experience: Three years of increasingly responsible experience in engineering work in the area(s) of assignment.

Certifications/Licenses:

- Possession of a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer issued in the State of California, and in good standing with the State Board of Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors.

Pay: Up to $85,000.00 per year
