Grandma’s House Daycare
Title: Assistant Director
Immediate Supervisor: Center Director
General Responsibilities: To assist the Director in the daily operation of the center, filling in for the director in his/her absence.
Principal Responsibilities and Duties:
1. Classroom duties
A. Provides supervision of children to ensure safety and well - being.
B. Never leaves children unattended.
C. Interacts with children as they arrive and during their day at the center.
E. Communicates with the center director regarding individual children’s behavior and needs.
F. Communicates effectively with parents as they arrive or leave the center and on an as needed basis.
G. Uses positive guidance techniques with children and staff.
I. Gives and records medications when assigned.
J. Maintains proper cleanliness of center. (I.e., doing dishes, removing clutter from shelves and counter tops, putting away toys and putting away materials.)
K. Delegates and shares responsibilities with the other teachers.
L. Knows and follows center policies and procedures.
M. Adheres to all licensing standards. (I.e., discipline, ratios, safety, and food handling, toileting, diapers and injuries.)
2. Clerical duties:
A. Over sees the School Age program
B. Assists director with record keeping for staff and children/families.
C. Creates staff schedules and planning for staff absences (vacations).
D. Assists in handling staff discipline and records warnings
E. Handles minor conflicts among staff, bring major or unresolved issues to the director.
F. Reminds parents to turn in required paperwork.
G. Makes certain parents sign their child in and/or out for the day.
H. Assists director in the maintenance of the Food Program records.
I. Maintains proper records on the center computer check in system.
J. Plans, supervises and implements the program for childcare in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the center.
K. Assists the staff with organizing and planning the management of the children’s programs and routines.
L. Assist the director with the book-keeping and accounting system, should the director be absent.
M. Participates in all fundraisers and public relation events.
N. To attend any required meetings.
O. To represent the board and the center at community functions as directed
3. Participates in staff training opportunities.
A. Completes new employee orientation within 90-day probationary period.
B. Completes in-service training annually, according to state licensing standards and attends workshops as requested by center director.
C. Obtains First Aid and CPR certification, Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse, and Universal Precautions within six months of hire, and maintains trainings annually.
D. Participates in center sponsored staff development meetings.
4. Performs job duties in a positive and professional manner.
A. Keeps information regarding families and staff of the program confidential.
B. Displays a positive and professional attitude, while maintaining and active system of family/center relationships.
C. Arranges for time off in a timely manner and provides director of the staffing schedule for that day.
D. Dress should be appropriate to both the activity and position.
E. Written communication to parents must be legible and spelled correctly.
5. Performs physical requirements.
A. Requires a full range of physical motion.
B. Requires some lifting, bending and stooping.

Minimum Qualifications:
The person for this position should have and Associates Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or closely related field and must be able to meet the DHS point system requirements of the licensing agency. This person must be a sensitive and mature individual who is able to relate well to both children and adults. This person must have the personality and ability to provide leadership and stability for the program continuity.
