Primary Purpose of the Organizational Unit
The Department of Recreation and Wellness (RecWell) is housed in the Division of Student Affairs. RecWell fosters comprehensive wellness by engaging students and the UNCG community in experiential and educational opportunities. We promote lifelong success through meaningful and inclusive programs and resources. RecWell offers comprehensive recreation and wellness programming including; fitness, aquatics, informal recreation, outdoor adventures, competitive sports, Esports, and wellness education. The department strives to provide opportunities that enhance student success.

Position Summary
The primary purpose of this position is to provide effective leadership and daily operations of the facility, events, and member services staff. This person will have direct supervision of two full-time professional staff, and indirect supervision of two graduate assistants and 40+ student staff. This position is responsible for managing daily operations of the Leonard J. Kaplan Center for Wellness, developing policies and procedures for staff and patrons, facilitating training and development opportunities, and serving an essential role in risk management and safety education across the department.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Minimum of three years of demonstrated experience in recreation facilities management or programming
- Direct experience hiring, training, and supervising student employees.
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written
- Strong commitment to the development of students to provide leadership training, support academic success, and professional development
- Direct budget management experience
- Current certification as American Red Cross First Aid and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer (or ability to obtain within first 60 days of hire)
- Ability to work occasional evening and weekend hours in addition to regular University hours.

Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Higher Education, Sport/Recreation Management, or related field.
- Experience supervising professional staff or graduate assistants.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with diverse student populations and equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives.
- Experience with reservation or recreational software such as Innosoft Fusion, CSI, EMS, WhentoWork, and Connect2.
