Assistant Director of Counseling, College and Career
Job description
JOB GOAL: To provide leadership, training and support for a high-quality counseling, college and career program that prepares all students, including sub-groups, to meet or exceed proficiency local, state, and national assessments; bolsters the counselor and college and career staff role to make it integral to the district’s academic program; increases persistence to graduation due to clear career planning framework; prepares students for success at the post-secondary level.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Provide leadership for the counseling program, and college and career readiness initiatives in the School District PK-12.
- Oversee the development, delivery, and regular evaluation of the District’s 339 Plan.
- Ensure all programs are:
- aligned to the district mission and state and federal standards;
- equitable and foster diversity, inclusion, and accessibility;
- data-informed and use evidence-based practices;
- integrated with other district programs and;
- improving student growth and achievement and monitored using the academic return on investment model
- Engage staff at all levels to obtain input on decisions that impact their work.
- Support the development and implementation of an academic multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS) model that works in alignment with the Office of Teaching and Learning and Office of School Directors
- Ensure appropriate learning opportunities and related artifacts are collected that align with PDE’s College and Career Measures as measured by the PA Future Ready Index.
- Sustain and broaden community partnerships related to college and career readiness.
- Lead the design, implementation, and evaluation of professional development related to scope of responsibility. Ensure counselors, college and career staff are provided with effective and differentiated training, coaching, and development.
- Promote the effective utilization of the School Counselor PK-12 (PDE) observation, supervision, and evaluation system.
- Facilitate the improvement of counseling, college and career programs by collaborating with principals and staff to address issues identified through the collection of various data.
- Manage the budget and resources in order to provide the necessary time, resources, materials, and technology to achieve assigned goals and objectives.
- Collaborate with and actively support the efforts of other teams, offices, and organizations to optimize how the district meets the needs of each child.
- Ensure the district is in compliance with state and federal requirements, Board Policy, District regulations, best practices, and ethical standards that apply to area of responsibility.
- Engages in regular professional development.
- Other duties as assigned.
REPORTS TO: Executive Director of Student Services
SUPERVISES: Team comprised of content School Counselors, College and Career staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Valid Pennsylvania School Counseling Certification required.
- Valid Administrative certificate or in process of obtaining required.
- Minimum of five years of experience in school counseling.
- Ability to provide leadership for student achievement-focused counseling program.
- Able to connect PDE Career and Work Academic Standards to core content areas.
- Strong project management skills.
- Knowledge of systems program development.
- Current on ethical policies, such as: FERPA, HIPAA, etc.
- Interpersonal, problem-solving and organizational skills to effectively facilitate and manage.
- Familiar with the American School Counselors Association’s model that ties the work of counselors with raising student’s academic achievement.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
- Ability to take initiative to creatively solve problems.
- Ability to work as an individual and as a team member.
- Ability to demonstrate a high degree of customer service skills and professionalism.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to operate a computer and applicable software and devices.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Full year. Salary to be established by the Board.
EVALUATION: Performance of this job is evaluated per the District’s Performance Evaluation and Compensation Plan for School and District Leaders.
