Position Information
We are recruiting for two openings, one on first shift and one on second shift. These positions are Monday through Friday 8 hour shifts.
**First shift - 6:00am to 2:30pm**
**Second Shift - 2:00pm to 10:30pm**
Salary Information
1st Shift – $46.62
2nd Shift - $48.95
Job Definition
Under the direction of the Facilities Maintenance Foreman, Lead Maintenance Mechanic, Lead Maintenance & Custodial Mechanic or Maintenance Manager, perform skilled and unskilled labor as it relates to maintenance, construction and repair of District buildings, grounds, and related equipment. Works along with others and independently on all types of work or projects a Maintenance Mechanic-A would perform (except on electrical work of over 288 volts and/or over single phase) as directed. Monitors the work of contractors, employees in lower classifications and coordinates work between trades in completing District Facilities Projects.
Distinguishing Characteristics
Assistant Maintenance Mechanic may become a Maintenance Mechanic-A, at the District’s discretion, if the District determines there is a need for higher skill level work and the Assistant Maintenance Mechanic meets the qualifications of Maintenance Mechanic-A.

Specialized Job Functions
- Welding Two (2) year tech school or (1) year direct work experience. Ability to field measure and fabricate, solder and braze and maintain all related equipment. Ability to work with iron, various grades of steel, copper, silver and ability to run straight bead to create various joints.
- Carpentry – Two (2) years tech school or one (1) year direct work experience. Construction and repair of commercial and industrial facilities including wood and metal framing, wall, floor, ceiling, and roofing systems.
- Plumbing Two (2) year tech school or one (1) year direct work experience. Building and maintaining water supply piping, faucets, valves, back flow prevention, water heaters, waste & sewer systems.
- HVAC Two (2) year tech school or one (2) year direct work experience. Installation, troubleshooting and maintaining commercial heating & cooling systems, controls and metering devices, refrigerant recovery and recharge, cooling water treatment, and indoor air quality
- Mechanical - Two (1) year tech school or one (1) year direct work experience. Installation, troubleshooting and maintaining commercial pumps and electrical motors.
- Electrical Two (2) year tech school or two (2) years direct work experience (single (1), two (2) and three (3) phase electrical in commercial and industry). Education or experience should to include installation, troubleshooting and maintaining commercial electrical distribution systems, sizing of conductors and enclosures, grounding, transformers, breaker & instrument panels, disconnects and switchgear, lighting systems, workstation power, motors and starters, cable trays, and conduit installations.
- Painting – One (1) year tech school or one (1) years direct work experience. Surface/substrate identification and preparation. Ability to use brush and roller techniques with professional results.
Other Job Functions
Performs duties in lower related classifications as necessary, including custodial.
Performs associated duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Tools and equipment of the trade.
- Safe work practices.
- Commercial and industrial construction, demolition and maintenance techniques and practices.
- Safety practices related to the maintenance, construction and repair of facilities.
- At least three (3) specialized functions with related competencies, within the Assistant Maintenance Mechanic position.
- Operate related hand and power tools and equipment associated with maintenance, construction and repair of non-operational facilities.
- Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with customers, employees and contractors.
- Use computers or tablets to complete work orders.
- Work cooperatively with all levels of the organization.
- Follow written and/or oral instructions.
- Read and understand blueprints and plans.
- Lift and carry equipment and materials in excess of 75 pounds.
- Move furniture and equipment.
- Fabricate, layout, and document jobs.
- Learn and follow District policies, directives and the CBA.
- Maintain a safe and clean work area.
Experience/Education
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Six (6) years’ experience with demonstrated competency and experience in three (3) specialized job functions. Note: the experience in the specialized job functions may be gained concurrently.
License/Certification
- Successful completion of interview process.
- Possess a valid Washington State Driver License.
- Successful completion of a physical abilities test.

Working Conditions
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors, in varying weather conditions.
- Employees risk physical hazard from power tools, energized equipment and circuits, dust, chemical compounds, and height.
- Must be able to lift and carry heavy equipment and materials in excess of 75 lbs.
- Must be physically able to climb a ladder, work at heights in excess of 30 feet, lift and move furniture, work in confined space, and perform rescue operations, including confined space recovery.
- This position is subject to varying shifts, long hours and 24-hour call out.
