Located in Winston Salem, UNCSA is an arts conservatory and one of the 17 constituent institutions of the University of North Carolina system. The university community consists of more than 1,200 students ranging from middle school to graduate school. The school of Design & Production is one of the five collegiate level training programs (along with Drama, Dance, Music and Film). The school has 367 students, 32 full time faculty and 12 adjuncts. The Visual Arts program consists of 3 full time faculty who serve 345 undergraduate students in the School of Design and production, including 38 visual arts high school students.

Position Summary
School of Design & Production, Visual Arts Faculty.

Description of Responsibilities and Duties
  • Teach Sculpture courses within the Visual Arts Program in the School of Design and Production
  • Mentor and advise students
  • Assist in the admissions process by interviewing students
  • Continued professional activity
  • Active participation in shared governance of the university community through service to the program, school, and institution
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of Design & Production


Required Qualifications
  • Candidates are required to have a Master of Fine Arts degree
  • In-depth knowledge and expertise in 3D materials, fabrication processes, and drawing
  • Prior teaching experience with a strong exhibition record
  • Demonstrated ability to work closely, and in collaboration, with a diverse student body, faculty, staff and other colleagues
  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to contribute to curriculum planning in the Visual Arts Program and the School of Design & Production
  • Demonstrated history of engagement with and broad interest in the visual and performing arts

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in the classroom and/or mentoring and supporting the development of early career artists
  • Experience with emerging and industry-standard technology utilized in the fabrication and exhibition of sculpture
  • Ability to teach related design skills to theatrical design students on the undergraduate and graduate level


Tenure Information
UNCSA utilizes a multi-year contract system in lieu of tenure.
