General Summary:
The Assistant Provost for Community and Executive Education (CEE) provides leadership for Continuing Education to achieve its mission to expand non-credit learning opportunities to for diverse individuals, groups, communities, agencies, and organizations across a broad range of public and private sectors. The Assistant Provost promotes excellence and continuous improvement by developing mission-driven strategies, supporting implementation activities, and ensuring that resources are appropriately generated and allocated to support program success. The Assistant Provost works collaboratively with internal university departments and external partners to identify and capitalize on opportunities to increase access to and enrollment in non-credit programs. The Assistant Provost catalyzes opportunities for upskilling, micro-credentialing, and pioneering of non-credit programs to fill in the knowledge and skills gaps in the community and beyond. The Assistant Provost works with academic deans, directors of institutes and others to align, where appropriate, non-credit pathways with the academic offerings of UMass Boston. The Assistant Vice Provost is also charged with developing and implementing strategies and objectives that align with the university’s strategic goals including but not limited to developing partnerships with business and industry to become a preferred educational provider.
Examples of Duties:
- Provides oversight and direction for the planning, organization, and leadership of Community and Executive Education fiscal accountability, and program support.
- Oversees market rate, self-supporting, non-credit, and affiliate partnership programs and acts as the programs manager of budgets, enrollment, and scheduling.
- Works closely with appropriate campus divisions to develop and implement effective marketing and outreach strategies.
- Establishes goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and action plans for Community and Executive Education operations and adult initiatives that are consistent with the unit, division, and university strategic plans.
- Supports institutional effectiveness goals.
- Recruits, supervises, and evaluates faculty and personnel in Community and Executive Education.
- Establishes and monitors direct reports’ performance and development goals, sets objectives and priorities, conducts frequent coaching and annual performance appraisals.
- Maintains effective communication with administration, faculty and staff.
- Supervises and directs required reporting to state and national agencies.
- Collaborates with UMass Boston academic colleges and administrative units to determine resource availability for non-degree-seeking students with an emphasis on adults who have a desire to enhance their skills through professional development offerings.
- Collaborates with UMass Boston academic colleges to create internal linkages between non-credit and credit-bearing courses, certificates, and programs.
- Leads a collaborative annual operational planning process to include the creation of an annual report and an organizational business plan.
- Serves as primary contact for educational and business partners both internal and external to UMass Boston.
- Establishes relationships and networks with local, regional, national, and international organizations, chambers, and educational partners focused on workforce development and career pathways.
- Performs related duties as required or deemed appropriate to support the accomplishment of the responsibilities and functions of Continuing Education.

Qualifications:
Advanced graduate degree required; doctorate preferred. At least ten (10) years of progressive experience managing innovative non-credit education program development, delivery, and improvement required, including at least five (5) years of experience managing complex budgets.

- Technical aptitude and demonstrated ability to utilize multiple technology sources including:
- Microsoft Suite
- Working knowledge of CMS/CRM systems related to career services, such as Salesforce or Handshake
- Working knowledge of SIS/CRM such as Slate
- Working knowledge of LMS such as Blackboard

Salary Range: Commensurate with experience
This is a non-union exempt position.
