Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that supports the independently incorporated Planned Parenthood affiliates operating health centers across the U.S. Planned Parenthood Action Fund is an independent, nonpartisan, not-for-profit membership organization formed as the advocacy and political arm of Planned Parenthood Federation of America. The Action Fund engages in educational, advocacy, and electoral activity, including grassroots organizing, legislative advocacy, and voter education.

Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) and Planned Parenthood Action Fund (PPAF)
seek an effective and thoughtful Associate Director, Faith Engagement. This job reports to the Director, Movement & Partnership Engagement in the Organizing and Engagement Campaigns team of PPFA. This person is an emerging leader in the national office and externally in the movement as well as a resource to Planned Parenthood’s Affiliates, working with them to build and support their partnerships and initiatives in faith communities, and strengthen Planned Parenthood’s relationships within existing racial justice, reproductive justice, and civil rights-focused faith based organizations and coalitions.

PPFA has a longstanding commitment to engaging the faith community in support of reproductive health and rights, most visible in the work of its Clergy Advocacy Board (CAB) and supportive partnerships with faith-rooted partners. Though current attacks on reproductive health and rights are often rooted in conservative religious ideals, a majority of faith traditions support access to reproductive healthcare, and PPFA’s mission is strengthened through strategic engagement with these groups and their representatives.

Purpose:
  • The Associate Director, Faith Engagement will strategically utilize opportunities to elevate the voices and issues that are prominent within the faith and minority communities, while deepening PPFA’s relationships with those communities and leaders.

Engagement:
  • Willing to leverage and expand upon their existing relationships in the faith and racial justice advocacy space, including and especially those centering Black, Latinx, and other marginalized communities across faith traditions;
  • Able to expand Planned Parenthood’s reach into and connection with a wide range of faith organizations and key individuals;
  • An excellent project manager and communicator with the ability to synthesize and clearly share information with a variety of stakeholders and lead projects with support from the Director, Movement Partnerships & Engagement;
  • Exercise strong judgment, especially in situations of high stress and crisis;
  • Willing to grow their expertise in organizing grasstops/grassroots leaders and organizations
Delivery:
  • Developing a faith engagement strategy that meets the moment:
  • Partnering with the Director, Movement and Partnership Engagement to develop and implement a strategic plan for Planned Parenthood Faith Engagement that elevates and engages a diverse community in Planned Parenthood’s public policy and campaign priorities;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with a portfolio of key staff of partner and allied organizations to both support our policy and advocacy agenda and to amplify issues that greatly impact faith and communities of color;
  • In collaboration with the Director of Movement and Partnership Engagement, leading development and execution of the grant-making and programmatic initiatives of the Movement and Partnership Engagement team - including managing grants to diverse faith partners, grants to local Planned Parenthood organizations, sponsorships, events, conferences, and community based initiatives.
  • Mobilizing Our Faith Outreach in Service of Abortion Access Fight
  • Deploying the full strength of our Clergy Advocacy Board and broader sexual and reproductive health faith advocacy community to ensure visible faith leader voice through the Dobbs v. JWHO SCOTUS decision;
  • Providing strategic guidance as the Cross- Movement team initiates a transition in faith program administration, from a model focused on a Clergy Advisory Board to a tiered model of engagement designed to support a wider reach for faith engagement, including and potentially broader than the CAB as its currently designed;
  • Advance a renewed vision for PPFA’s faith engagement work preparing for the world of access after the Dobbs v. JWHO SCOTUS decision.
  • Working Across Divisions to Leverage Resources for Faith Engagement Work
  • Work with PPFA’s Communications and Culture team to support for faith-related communications and media strategies;
  • Work with PPFA’s Government Relations and Policy teams to represent PPFA support the participation of faith leaders in appropriate spaces with key stakeholders in government;
  • Serve as a consultant with Planned Parenthood brand and marketing team in the creation of branded materials that appeal to diverse faith communities ensure that the process and outputs define who we are, what people can expect, highlight the value of Planned Parenthood as a healthcare provider, an educator and a social justice advocate.
  • Work with the Organizing and Electoral Campaigns team and the Communications division on identifying political opportunities and plans for on the-ground electoral work
  • Provide technical assistance, coaching, training and other support to internal and external stakeholders including the affiliate leadership and partnership organizations;
  • Provides information and assistance to partner organizations and affiliates as needed. Proactively prepare correspondence and memo briefings as needed.
  • Maintain Faith Engagement partnership database that sources faith leaders from across the organization;
  • Contribute to Strategic Partnerships newsletter for partners and affiliates to highlight Planned Parenthood Faith Engagement work.
  • Manage and track project timelines and workflows
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs):
  • A strong racial justice analysis, DEI analysis, and demonstrated understanding of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) issues and how they impact marginalized communities;
  • 5 years of organizing, coordinating and/or project management experience. An understanding of the history and current political landscape around abortion access;
  • Experience building equitable partnerships in the Faith and minority communities Demonstrated ability and commitment to the topic of diversity, equity and inclusion;
  • An understanding of the history, definition and contribution of the Reproductive Justice movement;
  • An understanding of complex organizational structures and ability to identify and navigate ways forward in challenging situations
  • Experience and comfort to navigate ambiguity
  • Proven track record of project management and the ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects in a highly-matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrated success in driving a strong, results-oriented agenda that ties back to long-term goals and strategy
  • Ability to quickly determine which problems and challenges can be resolved independently and those that require further, higher level attention
  • Proactive self-starter with proven discretion and judgment in handling sensitive and confidential topics
  • Insightful and creative thinker who is a team player willing to tackle challenges both big and small
  • Strong oral and/or written communicator with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to build strong, effective partnerships with both internal and external stakeholders to work effectively across multiple divisions internally, soliciting feedback and input from significant stakeholder groups nationally.
Travel: 40-50%
Salary range: $98K-$108K

Final offers for this job will be based on capabilities and will be made within the parameters of the PPFA compensation program. Total offer package to include generous vacation + sick leave + paid holidays, individual/family provided medical, dental and vision benefits effective day 1, life insurance, short/long term disability, paid family leave and 401k.
