Position Title: New Iberia research Center: Associate Veterinarian

Department: 901003|NIRC Veterinary Services

Responsibilities:
This position is a training/experience position for individuals with a degree (DVM or equivalent) or applicable course of foreign study in veterinary medicine. The position reports to Clinical Veterinarians and will assist with therapeutic, surgical, and diagnostic support for several NHP breeder programs:

Responsibilities include providing therapeutic, surgical, and diagnostic support for several non-human primate breeder programs under the supervision of a Clinical veterinarian. Emphasis on preventative medicine and emergency medical care and didactic interaction with Clinical Veterinarians.

The New Iberia Research Center located in New Iberia is a $54 million biomedical research center, which provides resources for the conduct of basic and applied research requiring the use of non-human primates aimed at the solution of human health and societal problems. The NIRC conducts research on funded by NIH, DoD and the Billand Melinda Gates Foundation and serves as a partner to the pharmaceutical industry. The NIRC is a Center of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. Within the NIRC,the Director, Associate Director-NIRC CRO Research Director, Chair of Veterinary Medicine, Quality Assurance Auditor, Head of Sponsored Programs, IT and Facilities Management comprise the Executive Team.

Qualifications:
DVM/VMD from an AVMA- accredited school of veterinary medicine that is interested in training; or a course of study in veterinary medicine from outside of the United States. Training with all aspects of preventative and emergency medicine in Nonhuman primates will be provided. A highly motivated, self-starter type of individual is sought. Interpersonal/communication skills are essential.
