GENERAL SUMMARY:

Athletic trainers (AT) are highly qualified, multi-skilled health care professionals who develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive health care programs for athletes and other patients. Under the direction of, on the prescription of or in collaboration with a physician, the practice of athletic training includes the treatment of an individual for risk management injury prevention, clinical evaluation and assessment, immediate care and treatment, and rehabilitation and reconditioning of injury or illness, or both.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES FURTHER DESCRIBED:

  • Provides independent athletic training services encompassing the prevention, examination, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of emergent, acute or chronic injuries and medical conditions for the athletes of Chippewa Valley High School for games and practices as determined by the school Athletic Director (AD) and department supervisor.
  • Collaborates and communicates with physicians, Beaumont staff, coaches, school administration, parents and the athlete to provide safe, timely, effective, efficient, and equitable compassionate, extraordinary patient centered care.
  • Documents all care provided and patient treatment according to department documentation policy using Sportsware, an electronic medical record system.
  • Meets all objectives and goals outlined in the department Quality program.
  • Complies with department requirements for concussion management protocols and return to play policies from Beaumont Health and Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA).
  • With appropriate parental consent, administers ImPACT baseline and post-injury computerized neurocognitive exams for all athletes.
  • Completes yearly mandatory corporate and department continuing education, as well as maintain good standing with Board of Certification for the Athletic Trainer requirements and licensure maintenance, as determined by respective governing bodies.
  • Possesses the ability to stay calm, compassionate, friendly, and empathetic to problem solve and prioritize delivery of services in a fast-paced, high stress environment.
  • Attends scheduled department staff meetings to stay current on department and organization trends and updates.
  • Communicates with supervisor frequently, responsible to check e-mail daily, respond when appropriate, and in a timely manner.
  • Maintains verbal, written and electronic communication and collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment team and physicians.
  • Collaborate with intra and interdisciplinary team members regarding patient care. Collaborates with patient, and family in treatment and in discharge planning.
  • Follows all written orders from supervising physician pertaining to injury or illness care, or both.
  • Provide documentation to the physicians regarding the patient initially, at discharge, and at appropriate intervals. Discusses changes to the prescribed program with the physician before initiation.

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education / Training:
  • Completion of a CAATE approved athletic training education program or educational equivalent required.
  • Post-certification Master's degree in athletic training preferred.
  • Work Experience:
  • At least one year of related and expansive work experience in all aspects of athletic training required or a combination of education and experience preferred.
  • At least one year of outpatient orthopedic clinic work experience preferred
  • Certification, Licensure, Registration:
  • Board of Certification, Inc. certified as an Athletic Trainer (ATC) required.
  • Licensed as an Athletic Trainer (AT) through the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs required.
  • Additional certifications and credentials obtained in health care (i.e. CSCS, PES, FMS, CKTP, EMT, MHSAA Skinfold Assessor) preferred.
  • BLS (AHA or Red Cross) certification required.
  • Other Qualifications:
  • Competent clinical and evaluation skills
  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office, E-mail, web-based applications etc.)
  • Familiarity with Sportsware, ImPACT and/or hospital based EPIC system preferred.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize delivery of services as needed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
