JOB SUMMARY
Working independently and in conjunction with other healthcare providers, tests, diagnoses, and provides solutions to patients with hearing, balance, and other problems related to the ears. Responsible for measuring auditory function, defining a treatment plan including, but not limited to, counseling, prescribing and fitting auditory assistive devices, determining and instructing work/lifestyle strategies to reduce hearing loss, and monitoring the effectiveness of prescribed interventions. Familiar with industrial standards including, but not limited to MSHA, OSHA, to plan and provides industrial/business hearing services. Coordinates reimbursement efforts for needed services/equipment in concert with billing office. Provides consultation and instruction for private and public entities.
PRIMARY JOB DUTIES
- Conducts diagnostic hearing evaluation (pure tone/air bone conduction, speech)
- Performs Immittance/Tympanometry Testing, Otoacoustic Testing, Sound field Testing (pediatric & attenuation measures), and Otoscopic Examination
- Obtain customized ear impressions, order and fit ear molds, earplugs and hearing aids
- Maintain calibration of audio equipment and other related quality control testing
- Provide primary counseling on hearing loss, rehabilitation, hearing aid devices, industrial adaptations to reduce hearing loss and function, develop hearing loss conservation programs including acquiring hearing loss prevention products.
- Hearing aid selection, fitting, ordering, programming and repair
- Provides letters of recommendations for hearing impaired patients to meet their hearing needs.
- Coordinates updates in hearing aid products and implements improvements to meet manufacturing companies needs
- Maintains current knowledge base of MSHA Part 62 regulation, OSHA 1910.95 29CFR regulations
- Provide hearing course instruction for MSHA as requested
- Must be free from governmental sanctions involving health care and/or financial practices.
- Complies with the hospital’s Corporate Compliance Program including, but not limited to, the Code of Conduct, laws and regulations, and hospital policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education - Master’s Degree or equivalent degree in the area of Speech-Language Pathology or Audiology from an accredited ASHA program or Au.D. Degree
Licensure - State licensure by the Wyoming Board of Speech Pathology and Audiology
Certifications required - National Certification and member of National Hearing conservation Association preferred.
Maintains current national certification from the American Speech-Hearing Association or the American Board of Audiology
Interpersonal Skills - Ability to develop positive interaction with patients, patient families, physicians and staff in order to effectively care for the patients.
Essential Physical Requirements - Ability to lift and/or maneuver objects weighing 40 pounds or less in the assessment and implementation of patient care. Able to work varied hours, predominately daytime.
Essential Mental Abilities - Must be able to assess a patient’s condition, formulate a plan of care, select appropriate interventions, evaluate patient response to care/treatment and to explain/teach patients about their condition/recovery. Requires higher level of mental faculties accompanied by short- and long-term memory. Ability to function in stressful situations and prioritize to complete job duties.
Essential Sensory Requirements - Visual and hearing acuity corrected to the ability to perform the duties as prescribed.

OSHA CATEGORY I. TASK THAT INVOLVES EXPOSURE TO BLOOD, BODY FLUIDS, OR TISSUES. All procedures or other job-related tasks that involve an inherent potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues, or potential for spills or splashes of them, are Category I Tasks. Use of appropriate protective measures is required for every employee engaged in Category I Tasks.
Hours | up to 40 hours/week. May vary depending on patient volumes.
Employees working in healthcare facilities have the potential to be exposed to hazardous materials including: Hazardous Chemicals/Drugs, Waste Anesthetic Gases, Radiation, Latex, Biological Hazards, Respiratory Hazards and Ergonomic Hazards.
