Job description

Essential Functions: The Guardianship Auditor performs financial audits and investigations in guardianship of the property cases to ensure guardianship assets are being properly administered within applicable laws and standards. Reviews and gathers financial documents. Conducts interviews of guardians and pertinent witnesses, as necessary, to clarify information obtained. Utilizes investigative, auditing, and accounting skills to analyze financial data to identify reporting deficiencies or concerns. Prepares written reports containing findings and recommendations and testify in court as needed.

Provides training and technical assistance to trust clerks and other court personnel to ensure effective monitoring of property under guardianship. Develops systems, protocols, and training programs to ensure audits and investigations in each jurisdiction are thorough and timely.

Assists in the design and implementation of an electronic filing system for guardianship inventories and accountings, including testing the accounting features of the system and assisting in the development of educational resources for users.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, business management, finance, or related field. A Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and/or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is preferred.

Experience: Three (3) years of experience in reviewing, auditing, or analyzing financial documents or preparing and drafting audit reports.

Note: Professional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Knowledge of:

· Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

· Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS).

· The International Standards of the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing (ISPPA).

Skill in:

· Collecting and analyzing records, reports, and other business and financial documents.

· Documenting details and facts pertinent to the audit/investigation assignment.

· Technology and use of computers and software related to auditing.

Ability to:

· Communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

· Work effectively as a team member towards department goals.

· Maintain a valid Maryland driver’s license.

· Perform all essential functions of the position.
