EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an engineering discipline from a college or university relevant to automation and electronic controls and three to five years manufacturing related experience and/or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 3 years working with P.L.C. (Programmable Logic Controller), H.M.I. (Human Machine Interface), and Motor Drive technology and systems.

GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Lead plant effort at standardizing plant equipment and automating production machinery operation and reliability.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess plant equipment and identify opportunities for standardizing operator interface with the equipment.
  • Learn operator actions for operation of equipment and identify opportunities for automation.
  • Prepare appropriation requests for equipment installations and for modifications to existing equipment.
  • Perform the planning function for installation and modification projects.
  • Prepare clear and detailed work instructions for equipment installations and modifications.
  • Develop PLC, HMI, and Drive Control programming to accomplish project objectives.
  • Assist in preparation of troubleshooting guidelines for both operators and maintenance personnel.
  • May be called upon to troubleshoot machine problems.
  • Promote and teach good troubleshooting regimen.
  • Prepare drawings of layouts and parts.
  • Act as liaison for Production, Maintenance, and Engineering on equipment projects.

  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to work effectively with production supervision and hourly operators in a team environment with a focus on process improvement, product development and cost reduction.
  • Ability to observe and understand manufacturing processes and apply technical innovation

COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge and experience with a wide variety of P.L.C. (Programmable Logic Controller), H.M.I. (Human Machine Interface), and Motor Drive programming software and tools.
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system coupled with an advanced level of proficiency using Microsoft office, (Excel, Access, Word, Power Point).
