Automotive Worker I
Where: Fort Pickett, Virginia (DS FASTC)
Type: Non-Exempt
Compensation: $26.51/hr.
Work Schedule: Full-time, Day Shift

Skookum is seeking a reliable and respectful Automotive Worker I with a positive attitude.
Typical duties include but are not limited to:
- Perform preventative maintenance checks and services.
- Performs checks on brakes, suspension, wheels, hubs, and steering systems.
- Maintains required work, time, material, and equipment maintenance records to update equipment service workbook and daily task sheets.
- Assist on major repair jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts.
- Uses operator hoists, wrenches, gauges, cutting torches, grinding wheels, and other general or specialized machines, gauges, and tools.
- Performs work requiring the reading of prints, electrical diagrams, and maintenance instructions applicable to the craft.
- Maintains accurate records required during performance of job duties.
- Must be able to identify problems, often using computerized diagnostic equipment.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 1-year experience in Automotive Maintenance industry. The ideal candidate should have experience of several of the following areas: automotive air conditioning, brakes, drivability, vehicle front ends, and transmissions.
- Automotive Technology program certification preferred.
- ASE certification preferred.
- Must be knowledgeable with all types of automotive repairs/maintenance.
- Must be knowledgeable in all areas of shop operations, shop safety, and HAZMAT regulations.
- Must demonstrate ability to train, instruct, and mentor new and existing employees.
- Must demonstrate organizational and leadership skills.
- Must provide general mechanic toolbox. See attached tool list for minimum requirement.
Physical Requirements:
Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance. The physical demands of this position may be reasonably accommodated for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions on a case-by-case basis.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
- Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling, and walking. Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
- Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
Requirements:
- Valid state driver license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Skookum’s insurance carrier.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain applicable security clearances and installation access. A background check and E-Verify will be conducted for this position.
- Must be able to pass Medium Risk Public Trust background investigation prior to start.
