Job Objective:

Under the directions of the Radiologist and Lead Technologist, the Radiologic Technologist operate, specialized radiologic and fluoro equipment producing high quality images for diagnostic x-ray films. This position will have knowledge of anatomy, radiographic techniques and positioning. Provides patient care and assists with invasive and non-invasive procedures. Delivery of quality health care and customer service, which meets or exceeds expectations, to patients, physicians, physician’s office staff members, and visitors. Cordially and professionally greets all visitors, hospital and professional staff.

Leadership:

  • Must adhere to all Antelope Valley Outpatient Imaging Center (AVOIC) Compliance rules and regulations.
  • Completion of Corporate Compliance Awareness training.
Essential Duties:
  • Operate X-Ray and Fluoro equipment .
  • P repares and positions patients for their procedure while minimizing radiation exposure.
  • Monitor x-ray equipment to assure safety and proper working conditions.
  • Use sterile techniques and provides a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Maintains optimal performance and safety of all x-ray and fluoro equipment.
  • Properly positions patients for x-ray, fluoro and interventional procedures.
  • Properly uses radiation protection for patients and staff.
  • Follows established protocols for x-ray and fluoro.
  • Properly assesses patient labs, medication, and allergy history.
  • Assesses patient charts/prescription for proper x-ray and fluoro procedure.
  • Properly uses barium, iodinated oral contrast and injections.
  • Properly uses I.V. contrast.
  • Properly uses oxygen.
  • Assists physicians with invasive and non invasive procedures
  • Prepare x-ray room and assist physician with diagnostic procedures.
  • Correctly identify radiographs with patient information and anatomical
  • Complete encounter form with all pertinent information and correct changes.
  • Familiarity with Universal precautions.
  • Must have knowledge of proper use of biohazard bags.
  • Have knowledge of proper handling of blood born pathogens and other bodily fluids.
  • Must have knowledge of proper disposal of dirty needles.
  • Have knowledge of required cleaning gear and proper cleaning solutions for cleaning contaminated equipment.
  • Completes examinations and executes PACS and IDX Rad functions, pre and post examination.
  • Demonstrates knowledge regarding special needs and behaviors of
  • age specific groups.

  • Sitting – Frequency – 2%
  • Standing – Frequency – 49%
  • Walking – Frequency – 49%
    Body Movements:
  • Lifting 0 to 50 lbs – Frequency – approximately 15%
  • Bending, stooping, and squatting – Frequency – approximately 15%
Pulling and adjusting patients into wheelchair – Frequency – approximately 70 %
Non-Essential Duties:
  • Transports patients as needed.
  • Orders and stocks supplies.
  • Answers telephone.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge and understanding of: 1) duty to report behavior standard, 2) purpose of the Corporate Compliance hotline, and 3) importance of seeking guidance from a supervisor when in doubt regarding a possible corporate compliance issue.
  • Ability to operate x-ray and fluoro equipment.
  • Ability to assess patient’s lab values, medications, and allergy history.
  • Ability to properly position the patient for x-ray and fluoro procedures.
  • Ability to operate PACS and IDXrad Applications pertinent to x-ray and fluoroscopy Operations.
  • Knowledge of x-ray and fluoroscopy protocols.
  • Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy.
  • Ability to adjust technical factors relating to the patient’s condition.
  • Knowledge of contrast differences and the ability to identify contrast reactions.
  • Ability to recognize and report x-ray and fluoro equipment failure.
  • Ability to set up room for and assist physicians with invasive procedures.
  • Ability to use oxygen.
  • Knowledge of radiation protection for patients and staff.

Required Licensure and/or Certifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. (ARRT) required.
  • Current certification from the state of California issued by the Department of Health Services in Radiologic Technology and Fluoroscopy.
  • Graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology.
  • Current CPR certification.
  • Venipuncture Certification
