POSITION SUMMARY

Describe overall job purpose

Performs preventive maintenance, inspections, and repairs both minor and major on trucks, trailers, and vehicles in a safe, timely, cost effective and practical manner. Uses a variety of hand and power tools to accomplish assigned maintenance functions and assists other Mechanics as required. Completes and documents all repairs and preventive maintenance according to Department of Transportation guidelines. Coordinates repairs and preventive maintenance schedules through Shop Supervisor to minimize the impact to CRCT’s fleet operations. Practices safe work processes and contributes to the creation and maintenance of a safe and clean working environment for self and others.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

List any certifications, licenses, etc. required for the position

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Degree from vo-tech or specialized training in diesel or auto mechanics field preferred

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Four years’ experience or Vo-tech training and three years’ performing preventive maintenance, service, inspections, repairs and tire work on class 8 tractors and semi-trailers. Experience and skill level to include the working knowledge of: Suspension, chassis, steering, 5th wheel, drive lines, transmission, air brakes, wheel bearings and seals, external engine components, electrical systems, interior cab components, AC repairs, Computer engine diagnostics
  • Ability to replace components such as brake shoes, brake cams, slack adjusters, drums, suspension parts, springs, airbags, wheel bearings, seals, clutches, starters, alternators, fan hubs, water pumps, fan belts, transmissions, third members, product pumps
  • Knowledge and understanding of Department of Transportation rules and regulations
  • Driving tractor trailer units in and out of the shop and around the terminal yard
  • Knowledge of Paccar, Cummins, Bendix, and Eaton Software preferred
  • CDL with Haz Mat endorsement preferred
  • Must supply own hand tools per minimum required list with a willingness to purchase additional tools

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Inspection, service, preventive maintenance, and repairs of equipment for a safe operation and compliance with Department of Transportation rules and regulations
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by management
  • Document all repairs for DOT required maintenance files
  • Help maintain clean safe working environment in truck shop
  • Ability to adjust schedule to meet business needs
  • Must be willing to work out of a service truck as needed for road calls
  • Must be willing to work overtime as needed, flexible shifts, to include weekends
  • Test, calibrate, and document testing of safety equipment in truck shop
  • Assist with training of employees with operation and safety items on trucks and trailers
  • Regularly communicate with Supervisor work progress, concerns, and questions

  • Regular inspection, service, preventive maintenance, and repairs on equipment to ensure that all equipment is safe and in compliance with Department of Transportation rules
  • Assist shop supervisor in providing pro-active preventative maintenance, service, and repairs in a timely, safe, and cost-effective practical manner
  • Assist shop supervisor to ensure that equipment will complete DOT roadside inspections with no violations
  • Strive for (added from finalized/approved A Mech Tech JD) accurate and timely maintenance reports and records
  • Maintain a clean organized workspace and truck shop while complying with disposal regulations of all generated waste products
  • Adherence to all company policies and procedures
