    SUMMARY The teaching assistant works closely with the band and orchestra directors to assist with daily rehearsals and administrative tasks. They teach percussion techniques and lead orchestra and band sectionals. They are also responsible for musical instrument maintenance and equipment set up for daily classes and performances. Strong organizational skills are a necessity as well as familiarity with computers and technology.

    GENERAL DUTIES Teaches percussion techniques and rehearses concert percussion and drum line. Leads sectionals with instrumental students (strings and winds). Sets up rehearsal spaces (moving chairs, stands, and equipment) daily. Performs instrument maintenance and repairs (percussion required, other instruments preferred). Moves equipment and sets the stage for performances. Coordinates facility usage with theater, athletic, and custodial staff. Designs and creates program booklets for the music department. Communicates and collaborates effectively with students, faculty, and parents. Maintains music library and prepares transposed/transcribed parts as needed. Assists band and orchestra director with daily tasks. May have the opportunity to chaperone a spring break trip to Europe with the Music Department. Works additional hours outside of the school day for concerts, special events, and band performances at football games. May be required to perform other duties as assigned by administration.

    QUALIFICATIONS Illinois Professional Educator License with Stipulations (PARA) Music Degree (Percussion Performance or Music Education preferred) Understanding of music instructional practices and a strong background in desired area. Ability to understand and follow basic oral and written instructions. Enforce school regulations and policies in a professional manner. Demonstrate ability to deal with sensitive issues in a tactful and professional manner. Address concerns and offer suggestions in an appropriate and confidential manner. Ability to maintain good working relationships with fellow employees and pupils. Ability to communicate to students, parents, and staff in an acceptable/courteous manner.
