Primary PurposeGENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
The purpose of the position is to referee youth recreation league basketball games for Haywood County. This position is responsible for enforcing the rules of play during league games. The position requires knowledge of basketball rules. This position also requires extensive public contact with participants, which may include children, youth, adults and senior citizens. The position works under the Director of Haywood County Recreation & Parks and reviewed through periodic conferences, reports, and results. The position is subject to hazards in parks and recreation work including both inside and outside environments, noises, and atmospheric conditions. Description of Responsibilities and Duties
ESSENTIAL TASKS
Administering basketball league rules of play.
Instructing players in developing skills and understanding game rules.
Running score table, including scoreboard and scoresheets.
Communicating with other officials, coaches, players and parents. Qualifications
VOCATIONAL/EDUCATIONAL PREPARATION:
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES: Special Certifications and Licenses refer to state, federal, or professional certifications or licenses required to enter or maintain the job.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Experience refers to the amount of work experience that is required for entry level into the position that would result in a reasonable expectation that the employee can perform the job. It may be experience that can be gained on the job or experience in a previous job.
Working knowledge of basketball rules and skills.
Prior experience officiating basketball is desirable. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Requires handling or using tools for basketball goals and equipment requiring brief instruction or experience.

REASONING REQUIREMENTS: Reasoning requires consideration of factors and variables to derive solutions to problems.
Requires performing coordinating work involving guidelines and rules with constant problem solving.
MATHEMATICAL REQUIREMENTS: Mathematics requires the use of symbols, numbers and formulas to solve mathematical problems.
LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS: Language involves the ability to read, write, and speak.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Mental ability involves analysis, initiative, ingenuity, creativity, and concentration required by the job and the presence of any unusual pressures present in the job.
Ability to make quick decisions.
Ability to maintain a high standard of professional conduct and civil responsibility. Physical Requirements
PHYSICAL AND DEXTERITY REQUIREMENTS: Physical and dexterity refers to the requirement for physical exertion and coordination of limb and body movement.
Requires excess of standing and running on hard surfaces, involves exerting 10 pounds and up to 20 pounds of force on a regular and recurring basis.
ENVIRONMENTAL HAZARDS: Environmental hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
The job risks exposure to inside and outside environmental hazards.
Loud noises inside small gyms.
SENSORY REQUIREMENTS: Sensory ability refers to hearing, sight, touch, taste, and smell required by the job.
The job requires normal visual acuity, field of vision, hearing, speaking, sense of smell, and depth perception.

Requires fast decision-making skills in relation to the game of basketball. Requires strong interpersonal skills when communicating with other officials, coaches, players and parents. Additional Information
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION:
Applicants must submit official college transcripts (if applicable). Applicants must have NC Driver"s License and access to a vehicle. The applicant must have a clean driving record with no more than three (3) points showing on current DMV record.
COMPLETION OF APPLICATION:
Applicants will be given credit only for information provided in response to the announcement and included on the completed application. Applications should include at least ten (10) years of work experience on the application (if applicable). No additional information will be solicited or considered by this office; therefore individuals who submit incomplete applications may not receive full credit for their education, training and experience.
