The Bedford Research Foundation is a 20-year old not-for-profit 501(c)(3) research institution in Massachusetts that was founded to conduct research that cannot be funded with federal dollars. It is a stable, independently funded, research environment dedicated to curing currently incurable diseases. The Foundation seeks to help all those suffering from disease that cannot be adequately treated due to federal funding restrictions.
The Foundation is currently seeking a part-time development associate professional for ramping up fundraising activities for the Foundation. The ideal candidate will be a seasoned grant writer, have a strong development and fundraising background and an understanding of scientific concepts. The Development Associate position will be the point person for donor prospecting and stewarding, creating specific development projects, special events, and administrative needs as assigned by the Foundation’s director.

What you will do on an ongoing basis:

  • Build a development plan and strategy for the Foundation, and use existing databases and resources to further increase donor engagement
  • Manage and maintain accuracy of donor database, identifying, troubleshooting, and ensuring accurate and up-to-date donor information
  • Prepare donor correspondence
  • Write and produce donor materials, including proposals, thank you notes, PowerPoint presentations, and reports
  • Identify and draft grant submissions for public, private, corporate, and government funding opportunities, including but not limited to composing, editing, and final submission of proposals, application forms, letters of interest, reports, thank you notes, and correspondence
  • Coordinate prospect meetings for Foundation Director
  • Collaborate with the Director of Operations on regional mailings (directmail and other), broadcast e-mails, marketing/fund-raising publications, etc.
  • Maintain donor communications calendar
  • Brainstorm ideas with team to expand our outreach
  • Prepare fundraising reports and donor reports for the Director and Foundation Board
  • Assist in planning and collating materials for board committee meetings, and work with board to further development and structure of leadership of the Foundation.
  • Work to establish a coordinate a core of volunteers for Foundation outreach and projects
  • Working with Director of Operations on a social media schedule for the donors and community
  • Help plan and execute events Foundation events. Responsibilities include: coordinating overall logistics and planning leading up to, during, and following the events; maintaining accurate guest lists and database information; preparing registration tables and materials; coordinating with volunteers; and performing other duties related to events as assigned.
  • Occasionally assist in maintenance of social media accounts(Facebook,Twitter, YouTube, and Instagram), helping to generate regular and targeted content

Qualifications

  • Relevant bachelor’s degree required
  • 3-5 years’ experience in grant writing and building relationships with institutional funders at a nonprofit organization
  • Superior verbal and writing skills
  • Strong organizational skills, coupled with a strict attention to deadlines and instructions
  • Ability to handle multiple projects at once
  • Successful time management skills, establishing and completing goals according to deadlines, and project demands
  • Excellent computer skills, particularly in Mac-based platforms and filemaker database systems
  • Professional experience working with Customer Relations Management(CRM)software
  • Ability to both collaborate and work independently
  • Entrepreneurial spirit, helping to launch and establish a development presence for the Foundation
  • Professional appearance and demeanor
  • Basic understanding of scientific concepts
This is the perfect position for someone returning to the work force, or for a retired professional who would like to work 15-20 hours/week. The Foundation is located outside of the city, and is easy to reach without having to travel into Boston. This part-time position is hourly and salary would be commentate with experience(between$20-$30/hour).
