Behavior Interventionist - Life Skills & Outdoor Adventure Ed Focus
Job Summary:

Our growing agency is currently seeking individuals to fill our Behavior Interventionist roles. These positions offer an abundance of learning. Our positions range in level from a BI Level 1 to a BI level 3 with compensation that aligns with experience.

The person in this position will provide daily educational and behavioral support to individual students. The position requires using experiential education to provide opportunities for youth to make positive choices, gain self-confidence and learn skills that are critical to their lifelong development. Supporting individualized academic plans, classroom based activities; community based service learning and school to work initiatives will be essential to this role.

This position with involve a strong focus on experiential education including various forms of therapeutic activities such as music, art, outdoor adventure, sugaring, cider making, use of outdoor pizza and bread oven to name a few. Ample time will also be spent in the outdoor learning environment. Activities include sports, hiking, canoeing, skiing, snowboarding, camping, skateboarding, and taking advantage of our 39 acre property to name a few.

A strong sense of professionalism is required. The person shall present themselves as a strong role model for adolescents and demonstrate management and supervision of students. Successful candidates will be required to work across a variety of school settings and must possess strong verbal and written communication skills with the capacity to effectively engage at risk youth. This role requires active/hands-on participation in a wide range of activities and settings, whilst building trust and confidence.

Criminal record check, valid driver’s license, excellent driving record, and access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle are required. Other desired certifications include CPR and First Aid.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services or related field, or actively pursuing degree or willing to pursue.
  • Experience in human services delivery in settings serving children and youth
  • Valid driver’s license, excellent driving record, and access to a safe, reliable, insured vehicle is required

Special Position Requirements:

· Must be able to work effectively within the structure of the school keeping Laraway ethics and conduct of behavior in mind

Work/Physical Requirements:

  • Given the at-risk population served, the position requires ongoing training and preparedness in the execution of physical restraint techniques. This may require running to catch a child. The “Handle with Care” training program used articulates that individuals with back and neck limitations are likely to be hampered in the execution of the protocols and greatly increases risk to harm to self or student.
  • Ability to engage youth in physical activities such hiking, outdoor sports, etc.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
