Position: Beverage Director

Directly Supervises: Event Staff

Schedule: 30 - 40+ hours per week depending on the season. Candidate must have a flexible schedule, be able to take split days off and will be required to work weekends majority of the year.

Compensation: Hourly office pay / hourly event pay. This position is a Supervisory position and therefore does not qualify for overtime pay rates.

Job Summary: The Beverage Director is responsible for service excellence in catering bar operations. The successful candidate will ensure compliance with service standards, monitor quality, provide feedback, and assist in departmental training programs.

Position responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

• Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging service
• Develop and create new beverages for the company based on season and current beverage trends
• Ensure proper documentation for all ingredients in appropriate recipe files
• Conducts training for all bar event staff
• Responsible for setting the standard presentation of bar set up, including but not limited to bottle and ingredient display, glassware, and bar tools
• Provide reports on event bar performance on a weekly basis, discuss upcoming changes, review product challenges and staffing requirements, address complaints and resolve problems for both employees and clients
• Conducts tasting panels for new beverages with Management
• Conduct specialty cocktail tastings for clients as directed
• Conduct beer and wine tastings for clients as directed
• Ensure they are up to date on new product development and provide information to Management/Sales team about beverage trends
• Maintains beverage cost and inventories at an acceptable level
• Manage all beverage orders and/or preparation including mixers, specialty ingredients, wine, beer, liquor, and garnishes
• Create beverage requisitions as needed
• Analyze operational problems such as waste, lost, theft or non-movement in products and establishes controls
• Assist both clients and staff regarding all beverage menu items in an informative and helpful way
• Mix drinks and control the beverage stock as per guidelines
• Have full knowledge of beverage lists and bar offerings
• Have full knowledge of all menu items, garnishes, contents and preparation methods
• Ensure a clean and safe working environment, and actively participate in health and safety initiatives
• Adhere to all company policies and initiatives
• Create and distribute beverage packout lists for all booked events
• Update the Bar Notes section in BEO’s by BEO Packet distribution date
• Order all non-alcoholic beverages
• Order all coffee and tea plus fixings related to coffee stations
• Assist all booked clients with beverage counts with direct communication over triple seat
• Acquire the alcoholic beverage list from clients through tripleseat for clients providing their own alcohol
• Submit catering alcohol reports to appropriate ABC agent
• Acquire the specialty banquet license from clients through tripleseat for clients providing their own alcohol and post on tripleseat files for that specific event
• Ensure a copy of the tco abc license for tco alcohol provided events and specialty banquet licenses for client provided events are in the event distribution packet
• Maintain bar boxes with the assistance of the warehouse manager
• Hire catering bar staff with the assistance of the staffing manager
• Hold training sessions, concurrent with the FOH training sessions, for all current bar staff
• Carry out any other tasks as assigned

Qualifications:

• Previous bartending experience required
• Excellent knowledge of all beverage and bar products
• Previous point of sale system (Square) experience an asset
• Excellent communication and organizational skills
• Strong interpersonal and problem solving abilities
• Highly responsible & reliable
• Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced environment
• Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team
• Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):

• Constant standing and walking throughout shift, on average 8 - 12 hours
• Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs
• Occasional kneeling, pushing and pulling
• Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps

This position may be required to work on holidays, weekends, overnights and other non-day shifts.

Pay: $24.00 - $26.00 per hour
