BFT - Part Time Storekeeper
- (3219163)GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
Under the general supervision of the Store Room Supervisor, receives, stores and issues food/non-food supplies for all areas of the Department of Nutrition and Food Services. Uses power jack and heavy trucks to deliver products from the receiving dock or main Storeroom to appropriate storage areas. Follows established guidelines to coordinate proper storage, stock rotation and distribution of products.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fills daily orders or issues supply items from Main Storeroom to Department units.
- Sets up and delivers trucks to designated areas; puts supplies away.
- Notifies manager of shortages/problems with quality or quantities.
- Accurately fills in requisition sheets.
- Receives perishable/non-perishable supplies from vendors. Takes temperature of perishable foods before accepting delivery.
- Promptly puts items into storage, making sure food is rotated to minimize food waste/spoilage.
- Plans work schedule to prioritize prompt refrigeration of perishable items.
- Ensures that all food/non-food items are properly stored on pallets/carts.
- Monitors expiration dates of all products; notifies management of potential inventory loss due to spoilage.
- Safely operates power jack to move pallets of food from loading dock to refrigerated areas in the Ingredient Room.
- Completes quarterly inventories to assist in overall accountability of purchases and issues.
- Monitors inventory levels and alerts management to potential overages/shortages.
- Uses chemicals and cleaning supplies to maintain sanitation standards of the Storeroom, the refrigerators, freezers, racks and shelves and dock area.
- Removes accumulated rubbish to trash areas through use of heavy trucks.
- Fills orders for the take-out window. Accurately documents quantities on requisition sheets. Applies appropriate customer service skills.
- Functions as a team-member to ensure the smooth operations of the unit.
- Follows established safety guidelines to minimize back injuries.
- Safely operates power jacks.
- Attends department in-service training to maintain skills/knowledge.
- Completes other duties as assigned.

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:
- High school graduate preferred.
- Ability to read, write and speak English.
- Previous experience working in a warehouse helpful.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to quickly perform basic arithmetic computations is necessary to take inventory, receive goods, and fill requisitions.
- Must use judgment to assess food quality.
- Needs flexibility and strength to be able to quickly and efficiently move large quantities of supplies from one area to another.
- Must be able to operate electrical and manual power jacks.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs. Up to 75% of the time may be spent lifting, pushing, and moving heavy equipment and supplies.
- Up to 50% of the time may be spent inside refrigerators/freezers putting supplies away,
assembling unit’s delivery trucks, and cleaning. May be asked to work a weekend shift as needed.
